when I convert 691.6kb 2048*1536 shots into a photo elements slide show, the pixels are evident and spoil the images either on full pc screen (19 in) or on t v. yet the same shots are perfect at full size as a desktop . Why, and can I improve the slide show.

Alternatively is there any way of keeping the slide show at the pixel image size

In preferences you might check that the allow to resize function is not checked.

The pixel size for video slideshows is set by the video format for TV viewing and you can't change it. The most common are VCD, SVCD and DVD and the pixel size (as you're in the UK I've shown PAL) is:
VCD 352x288
SVCD 480x576
DVD 720x576
PSE3 will only create video slideshows in VCD which is the lowest quality of the three. The DVD format is the best quality as well as being the most compatible with DVD players.

To make a slideshow video for TV viewing in SVCD or DVD format you need another program such as Premiere Elements or (my favorite) Proshow Gold.

If you just want a slideshow for viewing on a computer you can save a slideshow created in PSE3 as a wmv file in any of the above formats and play back using Windows Media Viewer. If you don't need the audio then use the simple slide show which creates a pdf file viewable with Acrobat Reader.

Thanks for the welcome, and the extremely quick replies. Your technical info is very useful Tony, would you advise investing in a DVD burner, or is this likely to be just as pixelly? I've just bought Nero 6 and this delivers the goods on Video CDs, but I would like to contain all my work within PE3 if possible. Thanks again guys,

Hi Steve,

A dvd burner won't improve the quality of a VCD. A VCD is made using MPEG-1 compression whereas DVD uses MPEG-2. The basic difference between MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 is that MPEG-1 uses a lower resolution.

VCD will at best give you quality equal to VHS tape, although Nero produces one of the better results.

If you want to produce higher quality slide shows then DVD is the way to go and for this (as Tony said) you could use Premiere Elements, Pro Show Gold or Nero amongst other packages.

Thanks for the information. I've already got Premiere Elements as I bought it as a bundle with PSE3, so I think I'll invest in a DVD burner. I'm completely new to digital imaging so I might as well start with the right gear rather than muddle along with inferior results. I've learnt such a lot by just browsing this forum that I'm definitely going to continue reading it. Thanks again for your help.
