Hi, We went to the circus today and took 'lots of pictures. Obviously, the lighting was a challenge! Here are two collages with the same pictures but different effects. The first leaves the pictures in their original color; the second uses Jodi's photo tints. Comments on which collage you think is more effective please!

Kay, nice job! I like both, however I think I like the one with the natural color better. The purple is such a good color to complement them.

Kay - Great work. Even though I am usually a BW/sepia person I like the colours best on this one. I think the action stands out more in the purple - and it is a circus.

Kay,
Nice collage... Of the two I also prefer the colour one... the black and white version looks flat and lacks contrast, unless that is you meant to create an old-type sepia tone..

Hi Kay,
Nice work.........definitely the first one for me. I agree with Mike's assessment of the second.

Kay, great job on both, but I prefer the sepia tone, just find my eye is more drawn to each picture rather then to the whole image blending together (with purple). But thats just my humble opinion, in the end its really what you like best.:)

Purple! A circus is all flash and color. Sepia tones it down too much.
BTW, the circus pics in your gallery are great! I wish I could master getting good shots in that kind of lighting. I'll have to get out the books again before I go to a show like that!

Purple purple purple! I agree with Jo - the sepia tones it down and the purple makes it seem more circus-like. Course you could do traditional red, blue, yellow circus colors too but I do like the purple. Great job of capturing the action in such low light.

Purple. I agree with the comment the circus is about color!

I just saw your gallery and the other circus pictures are fantastic! The clown with the pulled pixel background is fabulous!

Well I like the sepia best because you can see the performers better. That's what you get for asking. :D
The other circus collages are great. Such wonderful colours. I love the circus. You must have had pretty good seats because your pictures are fabulous.

I like the color photo. The noise is much more noticeable in the sepia toned image.

Hey I also like the colored version...but if you wanted to try something...I duplicated your image then used Photo tints 1, style 8. I removed the inner glow and set it to 'pin light' blend mode. It's lighter so you may not like it...you could reduce the opacity of that layer if you wanted. I didn't go through 'all' the tint styles but this one came to mind when i saw your image since this tint tends to turn dark cloudy days into sunny day s :).

Jodi,
That really lightened it without changing the atmosphere of 'the circus'. I like it. :)

I agree with the purple. A circus is after all, well.....a circus!

Kay - Great photos! I definitely like the color! I also like what Jodi did with it. That makes it stand out even more. Good job with difficult lighting situations!!

Thanks guys...but I didn't do it...just a little 'one clickin' with the layer styles ;)

Jodi - Maybe it's just the kind of day I'm having and I needed something to laugh at, but the way you said "I didn't do it" and then I looked at your avatar... it was rather funny putting the two together.
Sometimes it's the little touches that make a difference. We know that Kay did a fantastic job with taking the photos and then arranging them and doing the original work in PSE. But you added that last little "punch" to it, albeit with a simple step. That's what I look for when I share my work with all of you... someone to show me that simple little step (or even the complex one) that adds that "punch" that I can learn from.
Great job Kay for the awesome work!!! Nice job Jodi for the extra "punch". :) (stop being so modest)

Thanks everyone! Part of the fun of going to the circus was the photography challenge. And I was up really late playing around with all the photographs. And thanks, Jodi, that extra step makes it much better! I am still getting familiar with everything on your disk, and I wouldn't have even thought of the pin blend mode.
I can't take credit for all the photos, I think my husband got all the good shots, although I did manage to do some good clown shots. (I guess shooting on green doesn't cut it in these circumstances? :o) We did have great seats, right in the middle of the three rings and five or so rows up.
