My photos are stored on an older computer(XP) & this computer is networked with a Media Center (MC). Photoshop Elements is Installed on MC. I organized hundreds of Photos setting many Tags before I realized that I should get the stored photos over to MC. How can I move these numerous folders containing these tagged photos without losing the tags? Thank You for any help you can give me.

Jim, just burn them to disc. You shouldn't have any problem opening them in MC. How do you like MC ?? I noticed HP's Photo systems are owning that lately. Then there's Longhorn aka Windows FX is due out next year..fall of 06 I do beleive.

Thank you Jodi. MC is great. I have Dell 2004 & 2005 along with MC extender. Sooo much fun! Back to my issue. It's not MC I'm concerned about. I'm concerned about losing the tags on the photos in Elements 3.0 when I move the photos from one computer to the other. :)

Jim, I really don't do Organizer but I'm pretty sure your tags will not be lost...let me go take a look at something before you do anything.

Jodi, I had a problem in a test when I just moved a tagged photo from one folder to another.

Jim,

How did you move the photo - what program did you use?

Mike..there you are ! Thought you were away ! :)

Jim, in the organizer under file..there is 'burn' . You can select that and click the Back up the Catalogue' function. Have you installed pe3 on MC yet ? I would just go ahead and test that out.

Mike,

I used the Send To command after right clicking on the file (photo) in XP.

Jodi,

That's my problem. I did install pe3 on the MC. I tagged the photos with pe3 installed on MC but the photos were installed on the Xp on my home network. All works well but I want to move, copy, or send the picyures from the XP to the MC. I'm going to phase out the XP.

Jodi - at home tonight unexpectedly but very happy to be here rather than 170 miles away :) - but that comes tomorrow :(

Jim,

A couple of things...

When using Organzer you MUST do all file management (moves etc.) within PE3. If you don't a number of problems will arise including broken links where Orgainzer loses the file & location.

Also, if you use the Back Up or Move options within PE3, the tags will be preserved.

Thank's Mike. That makes a lot of sense. I'm at the office now, but will do just that when I get home. I didn't look for a move option within pe3. I'm hoping that I'll be able to MOVE them all at one time accross the network from the XP to the MC. Thanks again. Jim G.

I have a similar problem - but I'm not sure your solution will help either Jim or me.

I am trying to move all my images (about 4000) to another drive on my machine and, eventually, to reorganize the directory structure.

As far as I can tell, the PE3 organizer Move command will let me move a single file or as many files as I can select - but it will only move them to a single directory in the new place. I don't see any way to do what is essentially a Windows Explorer function of moving whole folders of files while preserving the folder structure.

Am I missing something?

Thank You Mike & Jodi!! All is right with the world. The move command did the job. Eric, I backed up my photo albums first with explorer, then used the move command on Pse. This move did take move the photos to 1 folder in the new location. Jim G. :D
