Hi Folks,
I am interested in making photographs look like paintings. After reading these forums and surfing the web I learned about Corel Painter Essentials. I recently purchased a copy along with a Wacom tablet.
Does anyone know of a web site such as this one only for Corel Painter Essentials and does anyone know of any online classes or tutorials for this product?
Thanks in advance.
BTW if you do a Google search for Caryl Ritter and visit her web site you will see what I am talking about. She does very nice work, IMO.
Cheers,
Hector

Hector www.lynda.com (http://www.lynda.com) has some classes for painter. I have intentions of taking them but haven't had the time yet. You can check out a couple of the 'free' ones before deciding whether to sign up.
The corel site does have an e-mail news letter and a small site but nothing compared to here. No video tutorials either. :( There is so much potential for this program. I also have their manual (for the full version), but it's rather boring and hard to work from.

Pauline,
Problem is that Painter and Painter Essentials are not really alike. It's not like PSE versus PS. That's why I suggested the other alternative.

Painter Essentials is really limited versus the actual Painter program. I have Painter 8 and looking at what Essentials has versus the full program (they are up to 9 I believe) there is just bare minimums. Granted you might be able to do some of what you want - but if I remember a review of the Essentials wasn't really very good - do to its severe limitations.

Which Essentials do you have ? Version 3 comes with new automated palettes for turning photos into paintings...

The present version of painter is PAINTER IX.5 The ".5" indicates that it will run on the new iMac Intel.
One can only wonder when the Romans added decimals to their numerals?

Ray I do believe I saw tutorials for Painter essentials on lynda.com
There are also tutorials for the full version. I know there is a pretty big gap between the two and the full version has a lot more.

Pauline, you're absolutely right, my mistake! I did follow the Painter classes, but never noticed the Painter Essential. Then, by all means, get the Lynda Videos, they're usually amazingly good :)

I thought that Essentials 3 was a big improvement over Essential 2 though. I have Essentials 3, but learning another program right now is more than this old brain can handle. Yes, Lynda.com does have video tutorials. Some came with the program and some others came from her site. These were all free. I have 9 videos.

Dorrie H...
I'm in the same place you are. I purchased Essentials 3 for the Mac 3 weeks ago & have barely touched it. Not enough time in my day right now. I do wish that Missing Manuals would add this to their book list.
I AM using the Graphire 4 tablet 6x8 & love it.
I have looked at the free videos on lynda.com; they're very good. Soon...soon...i hope.

Mary (and others), if you want to see a book on Painter, then write to O'Reilly. If enough people let them know we want a Painter / Painter Essential book, they'll consider it I am sure:

Sorry everyone I have been away for a while. Thanks for all the useful information and suggestions.
At the recommendation of Caryl Ritter (mentioned in original post) I purchased a book titled Painter IX Creativity by Jeremy Sutton. Yes the book is geared toward Painter IX but I will see what I can use for Painter Essentials 3.
Thanks again.
