Nancy- Those are GREAT! My husband's grandmother makes quilts, so maybe I should take some pictures and Orb them.
And, I can't believe you've made your daughter an addict!!

:D Kay
Lol:D She was looking at them and suggesting it before I thought of it. She even pointed out a couple of things on the drive back from there. She's hooked on finding images.
Yes - quilts make great images but it took several layers and rotating on some I did before I was happy. The blue one is just one rotation and the red one is no rotation. They worked great but had to work with others.
Kay- you took orbs and made a quilt - I took quilts and made orbs!

Okay, so now we have to take pictures of quilts and make them into orbs and then make those orbs into quilts. And then we'll have gone full CIRCLE. :D

Wendy:
I am also a quilter, so what you are telling me now is that I need to take pictures of all the quilts I make and see at quilt shows and play with them in PSE:eek:
Those orbs look great......I think they could inspire me to make a quilt. A very vicious circle!

Nancy-That was a great idea to put them in the notebook. I bet the people who put on the quilt show would love to see your work!

Thanks Kay - I am going to give them a printout of the book. I know several people there at that retirement home and they are familiar with some of my work. I also posted a quilt in another thread you have to see. It's using pictures to make a memory quilt.

Nancy, your quilt book is marvellous. I haven't yet tried the book, I am busy trying other things first. I have just done my first page curl and next is either the film strip or the breakout

Thanks Karen and Eva,
I love doing this stuff but am spending too much time playing and not enough time learning. I got CS2 and have barely touched it because I'm busy with learning my camera and playing here.

Sorry -didn't see your message - guess it posted while I was typing. The signature and the stroke are on the same layer and then I applied Jodi's outer glow. Since they share a layer, it added the glow to my name too - a pleasant surprise.

Hi Nancy ...
Oh that is just a great idea ... and you have done it so well !!
Now the only way to learn to use CS2 is to close Elements and leave it closed  ... you may struggle to start with but it is easier than you think. Its OK using both when you have learned how to use CS2 but switching back and forth at this stage is just too confusing ..
Have courage and go for it !! :)

It is a little hard to do both like Wendy said. I bought CS2 Classroom in a Book and hopefully that will get me going. I just like the toolbars and layout of Elements so much better than CS2.

I have tried to do this and what I get is a "glow" around the entire size of the signature which blurs out the logo signature. It does not go just around the text itself. Any clues what I'm doing wrong.

Dorrie,
I made my signature into a brush so I don't have to redo it every time. Since it is now a shape - it goes around the outer portion of the shape and gives the nice glow. I think you might be able to get the same or very similar effect if you simplify your text layer first before applying the outer glow. Your choice of font will probably affect your results as well though.

Nancy,
I appreciate your trying to help, but it's still not working. I do have my signature defined as a brush, in fact I have serveral different ones and none of them work with the outer glow. Also there is no text layer when applying the signature brush, its on a layer all by itself and cannot be simplified. I have even made sure the signature was on a transparent layer and just the writting was selected when the brush was defined.

Nancy - those orbs are incredible. The red and green one would make into beautiful Christmas Cards to send to your seniors. They both would make into lovely notecards. I still send photo notes to my Dad and my aunts just to say hi because they do not have computers.

Nancy,
In fact this is what my signature looks like. #1 is my brush sig which is floating over the picture. #2 is what happens when I apply my brush sig and put an outer glow. Layers palette contains Background and Brush layer only.

Well - I can't explain it but it looks like it's applying the outer glow to your entire original brush file, including background. When you defined your brush did you first control+click the layer to highlight your text only? That's how I saved mine and it eliminated the background. This is just a guess. Sorry - I don't know what else to suggest. When I did mine, like I said, it was put on the same layer as the stroke by mistake but it worked out fine by adding the outer glow. I just went back and did another the same way and it worked with the same effect.
Wendy, Jodi, Ray? Any thoughts on this?

Thank you so much. I actually am going to send a few of them to some of the people there as thank you's. They really appreciate the "old time" way of communicating with people by cards and letters.

Thanks Nancy,
Yes I had selected just my signature by Ctrl-clicking the layer, but it still comes out the same as above screen shot.
Was hoping someone would have an answer, but if not, I'll live with it.
Again many thanks Nancy for trying.

Hi Dorrie,
It looks as though your does have a background on it ... try a new layer then do a brushstroke accross it and apply the glow. How does that look ??

 :(
Now this is a real mystery. I have done what you suggested Wendy, in fact I have done several things. Like resetting the preferences, redoing the logo and even copying the files from version 4 to version 3.
NOW, get this it works in version 4 but NOT in version 3. Yet I have done the same things in 3 as I did in 4, go figure.....I'm at a real loss here, so I think I'll just give it up unless someone has a clue as to whats happening.
I know I'm old, but I didn't think I lost my computer skills...:D

I have both versions and like I said it works in 4 but not in 3, and I can't figure out why.

I think I know the answer!!!! The layer with the stroke and signature brush has to be transparent. It works every time when it is transparent, but does not work when the layer is filled with color. I have tested in both 3 and 4 and went back to my original file and looked and it is transparent and works every time unless the layer has a colored background.
Dorrie H.
March 16th, 2006, 07:44 PM
Sorry, but both my signature brushes in 3 and 4 are on a transparent layer. I already thought of that, so I had made a new brush on a transparent layer. Actually it's the same signature brush in both versions, because I even copied (I have a separate brush folder for all my signatures) the file from ver 4 over to ver 3. BIG MYSTERY!!!

Wendy

Dorrie ...
Are you stamping both onto a transparent layer ??
Wendy
Dorrie H.
March 17th, 2006, 01:50 PM
Wendy,
If you mean did I create the signature on a transparent layer, the answer is Yes. and did I then make a selection of the signature by doing a Control+J and defining that as a brush, then the answer is Yes. I don't know what else to do...It does work just fine in version 4 and I didn't do anything different that what I have discribed above.
I don't want to put anybody to anymore trouble. You and Nancy have been so wonderful trying to solve this, and I do appreciate your endeavors very much, but I think I'm going to just have to forget about it.

Hi Dorrie ...
No what I am asking is when you used the signature brush on your images was the layer you used it on a transparent layer?

Wendy,
I'm including two screen shots here indicating what my layers palette looks like. I have attempted to use the sig/brush on both a solid layer and a transparent layer and neither works. The first image here shows Layer 1 as the solid layer and layer 2 is the transparent layer. These were both done in Elements Ver.3. (I could do the same thing in version 4 and it will show the glow on the transparent layer when I apply Jodi's outer glow 1.)
The transparent layer puts the Glow as a square and the the solid layer would not put any glow at all. If this doesn't solve it, then it's time to put it to bed with many thanks.
http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/6837/sigtrouble20fw.th.jpg (http://img523.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sigtrouble20fw.jpg) The second image here is a repeat of what I posted before, which has the sig/brush on a transparent layer.

Hi Dorrie ...
It should only work on a transparent layer as a solid one would have the outer glow outside the frame ...
On the transparent layer its almost as though its picking up the edge around where you defined your brush ... it really is puzzling
Wendy

March 17th, 2006, 06:49 PM
Wendy,
Yes, I know, but when I defined the brush I only had the writing selected not the outer parameter, yet that is what's glowing. Like I said before, it doesn't happen that way in version 4. Very puzzling indeed. I guess if I want my sig/brush to have a glow around it I'll have to use ver. 4, :D
I'll just keep smiling :)
