There is a video tutorial in the subscriber area titled "Changing Background" that might help you.

I have also found that often, if I use a Levels adjustment layer, I can wash out the sky making it much easier to select.

If the photo you are trying to repair has trees with lots of leaves or other intricate patterns, you may have trouble with fringe, but if the sky is open it should not be that hard.

I use a seperate layer - just because it's easier to move,adjust,etc.

I generally use a piece of sky from an existing photo.

Some actually shoot and keep a selection of sky shots (and clouds) for fill purposes.

That's what I do. When it is a beautiful day, I take a couple of shots of the sky and just stick them in a folder for when I need a better sky.

Hi ....

... if you look at the tutorial Joe suggested then you can use that method to either make a new sky or you can insert sky from another image into it. Either way you new sky is on it own layer :)

I do that too. I have several hundred cloud photos and a series of moon photos in all phases. I just moved to Denver from Texas about a year ago and the cloud formations here are really beautiful and different from what I was accustomed to seeing in Texas. With a digital camera, it's hard to resist taking photos of clouds several times a week.

When I take a photo on a gray day, I just delete the sky and insert a nicer sky behind the foreground.

With digital cameras and editing software, pushing the shutter release is only the beginning of the image creation process.

Hi Hank

Instructions on how to add a blue sky are in the Photoshop elements 4.0 bonus edition.
Hope I responded OK. This is my first response.
