Duplicate layer error

My program won't duplicate a layer anymore. Since yesterday it's been giving me an error message any time I try to duplicate any layer. It says "could not complete your request b/c of a program error."

When weird stuff like this happens usually deleting the preference file cures it. Hold down alt+shift+ctrl a split second ( half a split second) after launching the Editor portion of the program. A message will appear asking if you'l like to reset settings.,..say OK and the program will launch back to normal.

Well that little trick worked a couple times. But if I do it then it seems the first time I duplicate it works, then if I ever try again, on that image or another then it won't work. And if I don't do the crtl +alt + del before I start up then I get the error message.

well that's weird. Try ctrl+J and see if that works. Tho there must be something else wrong. Which menu are you trying to duplicate from...try the menu from the drop down on the palette instead if you are using the Layer menu or vice versa.
