Hi Ben ...
... and welcome to the forum :)
I guess that nearly all of us use Elements but some do use Photoshop too. A lot of the techniques I and the others use come from this site, I don't know if you are a member yet but we have a Subscriber area with nearly a hundred Video tutorials in it ... (you also get a newsletter 8 times a year ... so its well worth the money)
Is there something special you are trying to do ?

http://www.adobe.com/products/tryadobe/main.jsp#product=40
that link will take you to a page with the tryout versions of adobe products. If you scroll down you will find a link to download Photoshop Elements 4.0. This is the most recent release of elements. Most users of this forum use one version of elements or another.
Do let us know how it comes out for you.

Do you have a wacom tablet?
I got elements 3 included when I bought mine. It also came with corel painter. I would recommend buying a tablet and then you would get elements with it. I got mine for $99, so I think it's a good deal. I also have pictureIt! 9 and a couple other photo programs, and I use a free site called Gifworks. I do like elements the best overall.
