View Full Version : PSE3 unexpectedly quit...

Hello...I downloaded the PET effects files yesterday and was enjoying playing with them. I had good luck with the photo border edge and the "antique photo" technique, etc., but each time I tried to use the film-strip effect it caused PSE3 to quit. It would make the changes and form the effect each time, but then would promptly "die". Could this be a hardware memory problem? Or perhaps some other diabolical plot. It would be wonderful to know if anyone else has had a similar problem. I am a Mac user. Thanks in advance.

I am at work now (even if it doesn't quite show up... hehe!) I can't test it. Wendy is also a Macintosh user, so perhaps when she gets back she'll notice this thread and will be able to provide more help.

I have Windows/Elements 3.0 and have had the PET Productivity and Effects files installed for several months. Some seem to be more prone to "Could not complete your request because of a program error" and "We are forced to close the program" messages than others.

Just now I tried out the Film Strip. First try, I received those negative messages. After that it worked perfectly. I set up a routine in which at the end I pressed Enter....not the continue or stop...waited a few seconds. If the image was too large and I could not see the bounding box, I pressed Control 0 (zero). After that I could do what I wanted.

It does produce a nice effect, but, if you have the time, you may want to check out the film strip videos in the Subscriber Section (3 parts) and:

(1) make your own filmstrip or
(2) download film strips shapes and place them in Custom Shapes
(Video in Subscriber Section, "Film Strip, Part 3, July 19th, 2005...
from there you download the film strip shapes in a file named
filmstrip_customshapes.zip.)

Hi Bluebird,

I haven't used them very much ... so I decided to test them.

Result is that I have the same problem it crashes Elements and always at the same place ... its right at the end when you have to commit the final transformation.

Looks like there is something in there that it doesn't like. I would just download the custom shape and make your own ...

Good thing is that the problem isn't with your Mac :)

Hi Wendy,

Thanks so much for testing it on my behalf. I am very glad to learn that it isn't my computer. I will take your advice. Thank you.

Hi there ...

If you are also having problems with the other set of extras (the tools) then try Grant's instead ... here is the link:

Hi Wendy,

I have downloaded the Grant's Tools. You wonderfully helped see me through that task. Now I just need to figure out how to use them. Are there any tuts showing how people use Grant's Tools?

Hi Bluebird ...

Well I did a mini tut on how to use Grant's layer mask ... its in Wendy's Mini Tutorials (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3641) but here is the individual link to it:

http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4601

Plus Grant has written some instruction on how to use the tools ... here is a link to those:

I could never even get that PET Filmstrip to work at all. It never did anything although the others in that set work. It sounds like it was a good thing that it never worked. I have the downloads from the Filmstrip Tuts now so don't need it anyway. :) Yeah
