I have been working on about 700 wedding pictures that I have edited a number of them. I notice in the browser organizer section I have some pictures that have ? on them and when I go into them they are browsing for them. There is a large number of these what did I do wrong and could this be why I seem to have problems trying to download on a cd to give to the bride. When I am saving the edited copy what format should it be. Jpeg or photo shop? I am concern I the bride won't be able to open and look at the pictures. What am I doing wrong?

Hi Laura
Not sure if you know this... if you move or delete a file with any other program other then the browser/organizer.. Elements will not be able to track them. Otherwise if you move or erase a picture with the file manager elements will not know where you moved it and will post the gray ? thumbnail.
To reconnect press File>reconnect>all missing files. Then set back it can take awhile.

Ok I did go in and transfer around a bunch of pictures in "my pictures" on my hard drive. Ok don't do that again. Can you advise me a faster way to go in and change the pictures I have edited from the format for PSD to Jpeg. From what I am being told if I give a cd with all the pictures, if they were saved as PSD they will not be able to open unless they have photoshop. I think I have to change each picture format to jpeg. I am looking at 300 to 400 pictures I have to go in and change:mad: . Anything in elements that would allow me to pick the pictures I want to be change to jpeg and change? Or change them all in one sweep? Also should I always save at jpeg to prevent this in the future and If I do, I can still do edits in elements:eek: ?

Hi Laura
There may be software out there to mass convert psd to jpeg but I would not trust it.
Myself I save in the tif format rather than psd. Most programs can read tiff and it would preserve your layers exactly the same as psd.
If you will not be changing an edited picture then by all means save as a jpeg otherwise I would save as a tif.
Wish I could be of more help

Laura,
My approach to a project like yours would be to select all the photos I wish to burn to the cd(via tag or collection), choose File>Export to my cd ready to burn folder and select the convert to jpg option. If using a collection I may also choose to rename to preserve the order. Then I would just burn with the xp burning software. Files copied to the cd ready to burn folder are temporary and automatically dumped.
You will need to reconnect all your missing files before you do this.

Laura,
If you wish to save a bunch of files from PSD to JPEG, use the File / Process Multiple files... there are several options, one of which is to convert file to JPEG High Quality. See if this helps.
You need to gather the files in one folder and then save them in another. What I do is create a Source folder and a target folder, on the desktop.

Ray and Butch
Thank you thank you thank you. I just now went in and was able to change a large number of them. I will do the rest after work. Thanks so much. if you can tell me the best way to prevent this from the future where do I go and change the default format so they always save on the tiff or the jpeg. Again you are the best.

Hi Ray
I have a question...does the batch convert make converted copies, or convert the actual files?
I thought Laura wanted to keep her layers so I was not sure about that option.
If it converts she may want to copy a set of her psd's before she converts to Jpeg or convert to tif

Hi Butch,
It makes a copy from Source folder to Target (folders are chosen by the user). In fact, you can't override an image with the Process Multiple files. That's the beauty of it, you can't destroy your originals :)

Karen Sue,
Thank you for sharing your method of saving PSD's to jpeg's to CD. I hadn't tried it like that and I believe it will be extremely helpful!
