This is my first post and I hope someone can help me. I am suddenly unable to access the editor. I have tried through every route possible on the computer and have uninstalled and reinstalled. While I can get to the welcome page and the organizer, clicking on the editor from either of those only results in my computer locking up. I have been using Elements 3 for about 9 months and have never had any problems until now. Since the reinstall doesn't solve the problem, I am thinking maybe there is a problem with the computer itself. Has anyone else had this happen? Thanks for any help.

Hi there ...
... and welcome to the forum :)
Have you tried deleted the prefs file ? ... its just that an unistall then a reinstall doesn't actually delete the prefs. If you haven't already done it then try this:
Close down Elements then click on the Editor start up icon and quickly hold down the Control, Alt and Shift keys. Continue to hold down all three keys until you get a screen asking if you want to delete Settings ... just say Yes.
You have to be quick with holding down the keys ... if you have problems with that then hold down the three keys with one hanf and click on the Editor start up icon with the other.
Do let us know how you go on ... :)

Do you have enough free space on your hard drive? You check this in Windows Explorer.

Thanks for the advice...I have plenty of space on the hard drive. The method mentioned by Wendy didn't solve the problem. I'll keep at it. Maybe there is some miscommunictation between Elements and the computer??? The screen with all of the copyright numbers shows as if editor is going to load. As soon as it says "done" everything just locks up. Then I can't get to anything without turning off the computer at the switch. Sure is frustrating!!!

I just read your Thread and responses. I am hoping that you have resolved the problem, but if not....
I have Windows XP Pro and encountered from time to time problems with computer memory and "strange" programs behavior. In my case, a virtual memory settings review and appropriate adjustment proved helpful.

I'm still trying to access the editor with no success. I have tried deleting the preferences file, but still cannot get into editor. I checked the folder and it shows the preference file is empty. All attempts to uninstall and reinstall do not work. My husband has been using the above mentioned link to try to fix the problem all to no avail. I am concerned that the preference file remains empty even after reinstalling. Any ideas on how to fix this??

Problem solved...After the uninstall, I checked and discovered that some Elements files remained on the computer. I deleted all that remained, crossed my fingers and reinstalled. What a great feeling to see the my friendly editor back in service! Whew!
