How does a person make what appears to be a torn edge for a paper that is so popular for digital scrapbookers. I know that you can select and delete but how do you get such a fine jagged edge and the uneven white that comes with torn papers?

I purchased an action from atomiccupcake.com. Its as simple as clicking where you want the bottom to be torn and clicking the action. I am sure others will be along to tell you of other ways to accomplish this task.

Ruth,
Here's a link to a tutorial for torn edges. http://www.myjanee.com/tuts/torn/torn.htm
and if you do a search on your web browser for Torn Paper or Edges you should come up with more. I thought there was one here in the subscribers area in one of the videos, but I can't seem to locate it right now. Maybe someone else will come along and give you some more ideas or places to look.

Hi, I remembered this coming up before.

Dorrie- maybe you're thinking of this (tho' I am having trouble finding the video referred to in this post):

Dave Cross' video on Borders which you can access via the Learning Center (see menu at top of forum) should also help you. He uses the spatter filter which can simulate a torn effect depending on the slider adjustments you make. Alternatively there is a torn page filter - Select Filter, Sketch, Torn Edges
And there's always this recommendation:

I once had a person submit a wonderful image to one of my challenges. The edges were torn the paper was crumpled and it had burn holes in it. It was a work of art and so I asked how it was done. The answer came back "I tore some paper, then crumpled it, nexg I burned it here and there and then scanned it". There seems to be more than one way to do things in this graphic world.

Scott Kelby has a project with torn edges in PSE3 Down and Dirty Tricks if you have that book that's pretty cool.:)

Ruth, here's another one for you to look at. It looks fairly simple to do.

Kat--thanks for the heads up about Atomic Cupcake. I'd "been there" before but hadn't bought anything. I got the torn edges action and it works perfectly in PSE 4.0, as you said it would.

Betty, I have purchased a few of her actions and am thinking of purchasing more. Did you go to the freebie section and get the free actions? She does some neat actions especially for scrapbookers!

Here's (http://colorburned.com/2009/07/torn-paper-edges-38-high-resolution-photoshop-brushes.html) where you can find some Torn Edges in the form of brushes. They work great. A lot easier than a tutorial to make them yourself.

Dorrie, just out of curiosity, how do you use those brushes to make torn edges?

Hi Jeff ...

One way is to use the brushes to stamp put the shape and then group a paper with it :)

What I do is open a new layer above the paper layer, then as Wendy said "Stamp" the shape. You can add a drop shadow, Transform it bigger or smaller or skew it, and you can add a texture to it. There were 38 different torn shapes in the download.
