I've been having fun with Tim's techniques. So far I've tried 1 and 3......and will have a play with technique 2 tonight. I especially like this technique because I do occasionally dabble with the 'real' watercolour.
I'm finding that the great thing about trying various techniques is that I can often see where parts of the tutorial could be used in other ways.

Hi Robyn,
The watercolors are nice, but I had to look twice at the flower on the wood- that is a great image!

Thank you Kay...........to be honest I wasn't sure about the flower/wood.........sometimes you look at something for too long and you just can't make a judgement about it.

Wow Robyn! I too like the water colors but like the wood frame image better.
Looks like you've been busy - lots of nice variations on your pic for Grant's challenge.

Thank you very much Wendy..............I'm not a gardener at all, but I believe the round image is a camilla and the square one is a begonia....I think!

Oh my gosh! Robyn
When I look at your gallery, I am awed, spellbound, and then I start with my favorite pastime ? ? ?'s. I couldn't sleep so I got up @3;#0 a.m. and am putting together a fresh loaf of bread in my new Zojirushi Bread Machine sort of like having the best camera I guess.
Did you learn all of these styles with videos: the frame work the , the chain inthe pig pic, the dark rose pict, the watercolor with the pic added, the two girls. I want to learn it all:)
Ihave 23 days left of my trial of PSE4 and I joined the subscriber area and don't even have my own copy yet. I am buying it though.
Nice talking to you this early in the morning.

Hi Vesta and Sherrie,
thank you for your nice comments. You're up early Vesta - of course it's only 9.45 p.m. here at the moment. Vesta I've only been doing this for a couple of months but I've learned just about everything I know so far right here on the forum......and members often suggest links where you can find good tutorials.....but the videos here are really great. And the fact that I've been retired now for 4 years helps, I don't have to go to work and I can spend as much time as I want just playing around in Elements.
Your gallery is off to a great start.....never be afraid to ask questions here.....some generous person will always answer.....and no question is every considered 'stupid". I look forward to seeing you build your gallery up.
Sherrie of course you love William, what's there not to love......I so miss him, to me he was just the most precious dog, and although he's been gone since last July, it's only recently that I haven't felt a real physical hurt every time I think of him.

Vesta,
Tim is Timothy Vesper and he posts on this forum under the name timteamouse. This is a link for his website, but Nancy tells me that at the moment he is reworking his site, so I think this link will only take you to that page. Normally he has a list of great tutorials that you can download as PDF files. If you do a search in the members list for timteamouse you can then find his posts and all about his tutorials.

Robyn,
I don't recall visiting your gallery recently, and it's my loss actually because you have fantastic work uploaded there. Not only the recent water colours but the others as well...
CONGRATS !!

Robyn, those are all very nice! You have a very artistic eye. Sometimes I have trouble coming with ideas for an image. You are very good at that.
I, too, really like the sketch. Did it take long to do? Is it Tim's 25 pager? I have been thinking of doing a sketch like that of our kids for my wife for her birthday.

Thank you Mike.
No it's not Tim's 25 pager. It was the one posted here by a member fairly recently - very simple - done in 5 mins.......and now I can't remember which thread I got it from. A search on pencil sketch effect would probably bring it up.
Edit:
I had a look through my notes and this was bits of different threads that I copied.
Pencil Sketch effect
1. Duplicate layer
2.Desaturate the duplicate, then duplicate this layer again.
3.On this third layer click Invert. (Just go to Image> adjustment> Invert.)
4.Change mode to Color dodge. (in the layers palette, by the yin/yang, black and white circle, not at the tip top where it says Mode)
5.Now Gaussian Blur to your liking.
Okay - I had to give it a try but added a hue/sat layer because I wasn't happy with the results in black/white so I now have a very subtle sepia toning - sort of like a yellowed or aged sketch. I just could not get that smoothness you have Kerriann.
Thank you. I set the gaussian blur at 60.8. That was the easiest "pencil" sketch I've ever done. Print it in grey scale or b&W?
Hi Rick ...
You don't use an adjustment layer ...
Try this:
Layer>Duplicate Layer
Enhance>Adjust Colour>Remove Colour (desaturate the duplicate)
Layer>Duplicate Layer (duplicate the desaturated layer)
Filter>Adjustments>Invert (Inverts the new layer)
Go to the layers palette and change the new top layers blend mode to Colour Dodge (It will now go white)
Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur ... adjust until it looks OK

Robyn, although I have 3 babies now, I still have an ache when I think of Lady , Honey and Candi. Each one was special in their own way.

Ah, yes. Thanks, Robyn. There's a similar technique in one of Scott Kelby's books that I've tried.
Thanks! And again, fine work.

Robyn,
That was Kerri's method we all tried out several weeks ago. I was the one who used the sepia tone. It turned out very pretty. Anyway - you did an excellent job on William with it.
