This may be a common question, but what is the best way to deal with plaid patterns when restoring old pictures. I would imagine the clone tool would be best, but I have been having mixed results, at best. I just cannot seem to match the pattern up correctly.
Any tricks or hints would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure how big an area you are working with but sometimes you can make a selection on your image and copy it to a new layer then position and paste it. You may have to adjust levels and size a bit to get it to match up.
By the way - welcome to the forum!

Hi there
You may be able to find a good section of the plaid to define a pattern or brush. Then you can fill or paint a selection.
Other than that you can cut and past feathered selections from like areas. Vary the hardness of the clone tools but there is not a good way I know of.
You can also choose a whole new pattern to fill with but that will alter the integrity of the print if that is important.

With plaids I tend to cut and paste from other areas .. if I can :)
