Just found istockphoto (thanks arcospark) and wondered if anyone has ever submitted photos to them. Does it really "pay"? I don't care about the cash but would love to earn credits to use to get other images from there.

Kerri,
I was looking at the "photographers" section of the iphotostock site yesterday. I can't see anything that tells you how much credit or dosh you get each time someone downloads an image?
Have you found this info?

No Mike, I've spent the week taking, editing and producing a slideshow of university dance concert. Haven't even had much time to visit around here.
Maybe in the next couple days I can find out more. In the meantime if you find out anything keep me posted!

Here's a snippet from the istock site:
An Introduction to iStockphoto - Contribute Your Images To iStockphoto
iStockphoto members are a part of an international community of artists creating a huge database of royalty-free content. To become a part of this exciting community all you need is some creativity, a good photographic eye, and a desire to share your images with other istockphoto members.
- iStockphoto accepts medium to high resolution jpg files, Flash and vector illustrations
- artists earn $0.20 for every credit used to download their file
- earnings can be converted to download credits, or cashed out ($100 minimum)

Dave,
Thanks for this... :)
So, every 50 downloads I could buy $10 worth of credits...? Sounds a better deal than the reward points on my credit card where I need to spend a few thousand pounds to get a toaster!!

Thanks for handling the research Dave! :)
So Mike,
Do you have 50 photos someone would want to use once or one photo that 50 people will want to use?

Of course!! I'm sure my photos will be in great demand and those 20c will come flooding in... new camera here we come...
...err ok then - that thought had crossed my mind  :(
The most popular images have around 400 to 500 downloads in three months. Not bad if you can get it.... but there are lots & lots of images that no-one has downloaded at all...
The most popular ones aren't straight photos though, they are graphics, creations or photomontages...

Hello! I just found this site and I am so glad I did.
I upload my images to
istockphoto.com
dreamstime.com
canstockphoto.com
dreamstime is my fav though.
I think istock is a bit to picky for what % they want to give you on each sale. Dreamstime gives 50% of each sale. Canstock is very new. They are still building their image base.

Glad you found us, Seagrave. We're a fun and friendly bunch, glad to have you aboard.
:)
It will be interesting to check out the sites you mentioned. Have you had a lot of "takers" for your photos?

I registered with istockphoto some time ago and bought some credits - just before they put the price up. At the time I did think that the new prices ($10 for 10 credits) were a bit steep - $3 for a high res image. :(
Then the other day I went to Ablestock.com    A single image for $199. 1 month subscription $249...
Perhaps istockphoto isn't bad value after all. :) But I guess that is also reflected in what they pay you for images. :(
But there are lots of images (not straight photos) in istockphoto that once I may have bought but now can be created using PE3 :D

If you purchased credits before the price change then you should still be able to use them as if the price haden't changed. I still have people dowloading images with old credits. I get the old amount when they do this.

You're right, the credits can be used at the old prices, but only for 12 months though...
