Just been watching the closing ceremonies of the 2006 Olympics. Now it will be our turn and it is very exciting. I took this photo last week. As you can see we in Vancouver are already getting ready! Everyone is welcome to come to our beautiful city. Think of the photos I will be able to get!!!

Bet you can't wait. My brother lives in Whistler (right on Alta Lake) sits on his front step and see's Whistler Mt. on side and Blackcombe on the other (right in front of him). Visted in 1992 and didn't want to leave. Best I start saving my money for the 2010 trip.

We are Winter Olympic junkies. We don't have cable, though, so we watch the NBC broadcasts in the evenings. It's not the greatest, but I'll tell you what, we've had some very fun family time the last couple weeks. My kids are enthralled with the events they don't see every day (like football or baseball) and absolutely LOVE acting them out. And my son drew pictures of just about every event there is (rough, pencil sketches by a 5 year-old. They're awesome. I may try to put them in a PSE montage when I have time). It's sort of a sad day when they all end.

We've already started talking about the possibility of going to some events in Vancouver. They'll probably never be this close again. Of course, there are 5 different opinions on which events to see (Opening Ceremonies, ice skating, snow boarding bobsled, short track speedskating...):)

BTW, nice going Apolo. You're a class act.

I remember the excitement and the thrill when the Olympics were in Montreal, in 1976. It is really something to be lived, not just seen. All of sudden, you lend your city to hundreds of thousands of visitors from all around the globe. You see things, you hear things totally new. It's like the world is holding a big big party in your neighbourhood. If you can attend, by all means, be there :)

You guys and this site have taught me so much. Look at my new Avatar. I didn't even know what one was a few weeks ago! Valerie when I heard we were going to be host I started a 2010 account and put $30. in each month. We will have over $2000. to play with for dinners, taxis etc and being in the downtown atmosphere in 2010. We live only 10 mins. from downtown Vancouver. Try it - you still have four years!!!

Shari,
Just had to respond when I saw your Avator. Like you, I had no idea what one was either until just a little while ago. What a wonderful forum.

Loved your photo of the 2010 street flag. It's incredible to think that these games are over, and in only four short years, we will be hosting.

Cheers,
Helen

Shari love the avator. With my brother living in Whistler at least my accomodations will be free and hopefully with his connections on the mountain, Ill get tickets for skiing venues for sure. I keep my fingers crossed.

Hey - thanks everyone. I like your Avatars too. It is nice to see so many Canadians here. I am very very glad I found this forum. It has opened up so much for me with everyone's help. The beautiful work in the galleries gives incentive to try them myself - and since I got my first newsletter I can see I am going to learn from those. This has become a total addiction lately.

So, let's talk prices here. Exactly how much do you think tickets for some of these events will run? Let's not even begin to talk about hotels...

Your mayor is a real inspiration.

Also the Vancouver ceremony at the closing was very good, that is what was shown by NBC!!!.

Any idea if cirque de soleil was behind that production?

Hey - have a spare bedroom? You could rent it out to use forum users for 500 a nite:).
