Hi
I have something called pen palette LE which came with the Graphire 3, and which i have tried to install without success. The instructions say once installed i can use it from the automate menu via file/automate, and that it installs itself automatically. Trouble is there is no automate option through the file option, or anywhere else that i can see. If i go to PSE2 on the c drive, there is automate listed there, can anyone point me in the right direction to install and use this application please.
Thanks
David

Hi,

In Photoshop Elements 3 (if you're on Windows, it's the Editor), it's File / Automate Tools.

However, I think it doesn't work with PSE3. I can't be certain but I tried to install them with PSE3 for Mac and no success I got.

I have Graphire 3 that came bundled with "nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 GE" (filters). I am assuming that is the installation creating problems for you.

Once installed you should be able to find it under File/Automation Tools that I believe is in Elements 2.0, 3.0, as well as Photoshop 7.0. Also, the dialog box for those installed filters will pop up every time you open the Elements/Photoshop that I have mentioned.

Now for the matter at hand...once installed make sure that this Filter Folder is placed in the Plug-In Folder of your Elements or Photoshop. If it is somewhere else, copy and move it to the Plug-In Folder. Shut down and restart the computer.

Also be careful if you have more than one Elements/Photoshop software installed. Those filters will pick one to install into. It will not automatically install in both at the same time. If you have more than one Elements/Photoshop software installed, you can have these filters in both by copying the Filter Folder and putting it into the Elements/Photoshop software that did not get the installation.

Hope this is the answer.

Hi
Thanks for the info. Its certainly a NIK programme, probably an earlier version of the one mentioned by ATR. I checked and its installed ok, in the plug in folder, but it doesnt show in file/automation at all. Automate is the first folder inside the plug ins folder and contains all the plug in files, but it cannot be got at in PSE2, at least not by me. Thanks Ray and ATR, its not a big deal, all i wanted was to see what these did, never having had them, well, i have no idea what i'm missing anyway.

David,

After seeing your last Post, I installed Photoshop Elements 2.0 and added it to my existing Elements 3.0 and Photoshop 7.0 (all Windows XP).

As I mentioned both the Elements 3.0 and Photoshop 7.0 already have the nik filters Folder installed (Plug In Folder). This nik filter Folder is not in the Automate Folder in Plug Ins. It is in its own separate Folder in the Plug In Folder. Using Windows Explorer/C-Drive/Programs Files/Adobe Photoshop 7.0/Plug In Folder/nik, I right clicked the nik Folder and dragged it over to the Elements 2.0 Plug Ins Folder and copied it to that Folder. Next I shutdown the computer, restarted, opened Elements 2.0. There it was waiting for me...those filters. If I went to File/Automation Tools, it was listed there.

Is there any chance that your filters found their way into the wrong folder? If all else fails, try uninstalling them and reinstalling one more time.

The nik filters that I have are working with Elements 2.0. Of course there could be a problem with the interaction of your computer and the software. However, some times it is the smallest little detail that sets these things off. Please let me know how it turns out. Don't give up yet.

I have Win XP and am running PSE 3. I have the free pack of NIK filters that came with my tablet and they show up under File>Automation Tools. I also have the full version and they show up under Filters at the very bottom of the drop down. I did not "place" either one - that's just where they installed. Perhaps checking under filters might help.

Hi Nancy,

To avoid misunderstanding, I agree that you cannot "place" the listing for the filter listing either in File/Automation Tools or in Filters in the Menu Bar. That is automatic. What I was concerned about was the placing of the location of the file in the Plug In Folder in David's Elements 2.0.

When I got these filters with my Graphire 3, I installed them into Elements 3.0. Afterwards, I copied the file to Photoshop 7.0 so that I could use them there too. David suggests that he has the file but cannot get it installed. My comments were based on this.

No misunderstanding - just a suggestion for a place for him to check since that's where mine went. He did not seem to be able to find them after they installed.:)

Hi
Just wanted to say thanks for your advice. Unfortunately i have to work, so i havent had a chance to follow up on what you have said, but i will do so as soon as i get the time and let you know how it goes.
By the way, its not that i couldnt find them, simply that i couldnt seem to get at them, which might well be me rather than anything else.
I will get back to you on this, and again, thanks very much.

Hi
At last, and thanks to the info given i have managed to gain access to pen palette. There are two folders on the C drive, one for elements and another for elements two. Seems the thing loaded direct into elements, which is where i found it hiding. Simply dragged it into the plug ins folder on elements2 and i was in business, now to find out what they do. I am so very grateful for the help given, many thanks.

David,

Great news. I am so glad that you hung in there. Thank you for posting your success.

I found out the hard way that those filters have their way of deciding which Elements/Photoshop they are going to install into when you have more than one Elements/Photoshop installed in your computer.

After I installed Elements 2.0 in my computer the other day to help you troubleshoot, I found myself enjoying Elements 2.0. That is just what I needed, another Elements/Photoshop.

Congratulations and keep up the good work.
