We were out today and lately my mind is constantly on Elements! I was in a computer book store and they had a book called Photoshop Elements 2 Bible by Laurie Ulrich. It was on sale for $20. Cdn. Now I know it is Elements 2 but this book explains every tool, setting, selecting, masking, styles and on and on. I am also sure there is an upgraded version but all the basics are in here. For someone like me that really does not understand how you go about these steps except when I watch the videos - it is excellent. I am really pleased. Just thought I would share for those of you who are just starting on this wonderful journey.

Thats sounds great.
I find books in the "sale" bin to be treasures. In a lot of cases the previous version of a book is only slightly different than the new version (updated for new features).

Have to say that I donlt bother too much with which version I but ... usually there isn't too much difference :)

A place for good information that is helpful to new people is:

http://www.arraich.com/elements/psE_intro.htm

Just scroll down the screen and you will find details of all the individual tools :)

I do too buy books for previous versions. There's a company which sells books in the subway (at the tunnel level) in Montreal. They're usually at 50% or less of the suggested retail price (i.e. what was 20$ they sell it at 4 to 10$)

I have to say that I have been reading through this book all morning and learned so much about the hows and whys. Being totally new to elements I did not understand brushes, filters. Everything is shown and explained. And I like the fact I can lie back on the sofa with a coffee instead of getting a backache at the computer. But as you can see - I am back here now!!!

And this shows how much I don't know - how do you get those smiles into your post. Mine always go to the top. I did try the help but all that says is to click on it - which I did - but how do you get it into a certain portion of your post??? Thanks.

Shari,

You can do it by hand, like ; ) (no space between the two) will give ;), : D will give :D, : ) will be :), etc.

Or, go to user CP at the top bar, click on Edit OPtion, and then at the bottom change your interface to enhance, the smileys will be right there in the message editing window.
