I have a Canon G6 Digital camera. Every time I take a picture it makes a noise that sound like a dog bark. It could be due to a setting. Any suggestion?

For sure it is.. well almost for sure :D
I know on an older canon A30?? I had. There was an option to change the sounds and one was a dog bark. Sorry, I don't remember where the settings are, but I think it was under custom or user.
Hope this helps a bit :)

OKay, I'm such a novice, I have NEVER heard of a camera that barks. And, then I did searches and people actually choose this setting?? Oh, I have so much to learn. I know Grant or someone is going to explain the really good reason for why you would want your camera to bark, I can't wait!
Back to the question: This isn't from the G6, but you might be able to find a similar menu on your camera to turn this off. (Or maybe you'd like to choose the "boing" instead.:))
My Camera Menu: This is the third menu tab on the menu screen, and appears in every mode.
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/A70/ZMENMY.GIFTheme: Selects a common theme for each My Camera menu settings item. Four options are available, the first one being Off. When a theme is selected, all of the following settings automatically adjust to that theme.
Startup Image: Sets the startup image when you turn on the camera to: Black screen, Canon logo, Canon logo w / sunset, and nature scene. You can also apply your own image using the Canon software.
Startup Sound: Sets the startup sound when you turn on the camera to: No sound, Musical tone (1), Musical tone (2), or Birds chirping. You can also apply your own sounds using the Canon software.
Operation Sound: Sets the sound when any control or switch is use (except the Shutter button). Options include Beep, Loud beep, Boing, and Chirp.
Self-Timer Sound: Sets the sound that signals you when the shutter release is two seconds away. Options include Fast beeps (1), Fast beeps (2), Telephone ring, and Howling.
Shutter Sound: Sets the shutter sound that you hear when you depress the Shutter button (there is no shutter sound in Movie mode). Options include Beep, Shutter sound, Boing, and Bark.

I think you need the bark because dogs don't understand when you say CHEESE :D :D

ROFL...
I can just see being in the middle of the forest and taking pictures of wildlife and your camera starts barking as you're taking pictures. Oops, ruined that shot.
And I'm reading the other menu options more closely, and you can have the self-timer set up for howling?? Hopefully that noise wouldn't affect people's facial expressions...

This did bring back a whole whack of recent memories to me. I purchased a Canon for my wife and it does just that ... well after I set the appropriate settings. I set it up for Doreen before I wrapped it When she open Camera I thought she was going to have a bird. with all the chirping of Gold Finch, the howling of wolves and the barking of dogs she was doubled up with laughter. Doreen likes the effects so much she has kept them as her defaults. The advantage is her first shot of people is ok and her second is of them laughing.

Yeah, I've decided I'm going to look for those settings on my husband's camera and "surprise" him.

And I'm sure he will love you for it. :D :D

Well then I guess it has it's purpose if it makes people laugh!! My daughter's camera makes a lot of strange noises too. Personally I have mine set for the shutter noise and like it. (makes me feel like a professional) ;)
