View Full Version : 2 questions about metadata

Hello again

A couple of questions that you experts might be able to help me with:

Firstly, I often find that I want to view the meta data for a photo while I am working on it in PSE 4.0 Editor. I cannot find it anywhere in the menus or pallets. Is it hiding somewhere or do I have to go back to the Organiser every time to view it?

Secondly, when I can access the metadata, I cannot seem to see the ISO speed in Elements. I know it is included in the metedata with each pic as I can view it in other software. Does anyone know if I can view it in Elements?

Many thanks

Still learning!

1) Try File > File Information ... or Alt + Ctrl + I

2) Adobe claims there is a problem with some cameras that inhibited the view of certain EXIF files. The problem for Nikon D70 is the ISO. I am not sure how true this is but the information was available in PSE 3 File browser and a number of other programs I have.

If you are using Windows, you can also go to Windows Explorer, right click on the image file, choose properties, the click the Summary tab and then Click the Advanced button close to the bottom of the window. This will give you a fairly detailed list of the Exif properties.

GKF,

There doesn't seem to be an ideal setup for Metadata in the Editor. I think Grant's suggestions gets you as close as possible there. If you use the Organizer, it has a pretty slick setup. Under the "Window" menu select "Properties" and "Dock Properties in Organize Bin." This keeps the Properties window open and neatly tucked to the right side of your window. You can size it to your liking and the metadata is easily accessed as you review photos. Hope that works.

thanks for the replies. I just wish there was an easy way to view the data like there is in the Organiser, but guess I will have to put up with what is there.

Yes I have got the properties up in Organiser thanks Norm, but there is still no ISO speed data. My camera is a NikonD50 so it must be the problem that Grant mentioned.

Oh well, maybe they will sort this out for the next version. :(
