Hi Mel ...

You really have made an excellent job of doing that ... it a great photograph and that background just finishes it off ..

Butch's comment of ... YEEHAA WORLD HERE I COME. Would make a great title for it !!

I have only one more suggestion ... Work as good as that needs signing :)

Mel,

I love that gradient effect!! Now I have to do that tutorial too!!! It seems there are so many tutorials and so little time. What a great way to learn though!!:D

Very nicley done! What a little cutie. I like the way the gradient pushes the globe to the foreground.

Hi Teri ...

Here is a link to a tutorial on making gradients ...

http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum/showthread.php?p=53422

In the second paragraph it mentions changing the gradient from solid to noise .. I suspect that Mel used an Angle gradient set to noise to get the effect :)

Wendy, I followed the instructions in your tutorial. Noise has different choices than Smoothness. I cannot get the colors I want. I moved the slider to adjust the Roughness and moved the color R G B sliders and tried both the Restrict Colors and Randomize options. Noise does use the preset background and foreground colors.

I will try this again tomorrow. I will be watching the Winter Olympics tonight from 8 pm to midnight.

Wendy

That's exactly how I did it :) I just kept playing around with all the different gradients and angles till I came up with something I really liked for this image.

Just trying out all these different effects is also a good way to learn and see what they are all about ;)

Thanks for the compliments everyone.

Mel,
I'd like to echo all the praise of your image and others I've seen of yours- especially the duck.

Hi Teri ...

You do need to experiment to get different colours ... try changing the original gradient colours. One its done try adding a Hue & Saturation layer (just sides you shades of the same colour) ow put a white layer below it and reduce the opacity of the gradient layer ... that gives you softer shades ...

Do let us know how you go on :)

Mel,

Ellen, thank you very much for the compliment :)

BJ, I put the picture in my post through Image shack.
http://imageshack.us/

Upload your picture and then click 'host it', you'll be linked to the next page........once you're there use the first hotlink for forum 1 and copy that link. When you post your message here just paste the link and the thumbnail will be shown in your message. That's all there is to it ;)

Thank you also for the compliment.

Thanks Wendy and Mel. Adjusting the noise radient with hue/saturation and reducing the opacity is an excellent way to get the colors I want. I made an error in my previous post when I said that Noise does use the preset background and foreground colors. What I meant to say is that Noise does NOT use the preset background and foreground colors.
