View Full Version : Disable automatic import to organizer

I just love both the editor and the organizer in Photoshop Elements. The picture import from cameras and scanners is also great!

What I don't like is that when I import a picture, it's imported to the organizer. That would be great if the folder would be what I want it to be. I like to sort my pictures in a folder with the date when it was taken (like "2006-02-16"), but my only options when importing from my camera is to name it after the date I'm importing them.

Is it possible to make it create folders with names like I want them? If not, is it possible to disable the automatic import so that I don't have to remove the pictures from the organizer before putting them in their correct folders and then manually import them to the organizer again?

I could use the view where pictures are shown in their paths and move in there, but it's so damn slow to use compared to Windows explorer.

The same problem I have with scanned pictures. Of course it's not very easy for software to check what date a scanned picture was taken. But here I would also like to disable automatic import to the organizer.

Is this possible? Does any of this make any sense at all? :)

Hi there ...

... and welcome to the forum :)

I'm a Mac user (and the Mac version of PSE doesn't have the Organiser) so I can't help on this one ... but hopefully one of the Windows users will be along soon and will be able to help you ...

You do have some options as to where the photos are placed, and you can even create a new folder for your files. I haven't got the downloader open but these options are on the right side of the download window. At least in PSE4. You can also disable the card downloader. From the Organizer go Edit>Preferences>Camera or Card Reader and check the box beside "Use Adobe Downloader to get photos from Camera or Card Reader.

If you go the route of disabling the Downloader, simply create folders to your liking on the hard drive, move the photos and import to the Organizer.

Ok. That's how I do it right now. Would be nicer to use the Adobe Downloader without importing to organizer. But if it can't be done it can't be done :)

Thanks anyway!

Hi,

When the download manager opens you have the option to uncheck pictures. Then you can make new folders and even name that batch of pictures if you want. The pictures that are not checked will still be there on your card even after the downloader asks you if you want to delete the pictures from the card. It will only delete the ones that you had selected (with the check). Is this what you were asking about or am I just out in left field?? :p

Will look some more the next time I'm downloading from the camera (don't have it here with me right now). Is that naming the folder for a batch of pictures, or naming the picture files names? If it's the folder names it sounds a little bit what I'm after.

Yes, you have the opportunity to name and place the folder.
