View Full Version : How do I do this with gradients?

I've made a radial gradient. I want to make several circles with this gradient on the one background. Is there a mode I can choose to do this?

I'm not sure if this is what you are after.
Can you just make individual circular selections and do the gradiant in each?

Boy, am I an idiot! Selections! I've been trying to figure out how to get more than one gradient on a layer for a long time. Its funny how the obvious stuff that trips me up:o:o:eek:-

Not quite Gary.
Forget the circles.....just say any gradient......I've done it before but I can't remember how. I don't want the next swipe across the screen with the gradient tool to replace the gradient currently already there - I just want to add to it. Make sense????? If I'm dreaming about having "done it before" and that's not possible - thanks for your suggestion.

Robyn,
If you set the mode to Difference or Exclusion (top, option bar), does that make what you want?

I'm not sure without using selections to stop the gradiants from covering each other. Maybe what Ray suggested?

Yes Ray, thank you, that's what I'm talking about....but then of course it changes all the colours. No way around that?????

I'm not really sure of the end result you'd like, but so far, if you change the blending mode of the gradients, it will always change the colours because it will adapt based on what was under it.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I think I was wanting to do the impossible. I'll have a "play"............I'm already thinking of a few ideas to arrive at the same result.

Hi Robyn ...
You can add a radial gradient to your image without it covering all of the image but only if its a gradient that has transparent as part of of it. If you set your foreground colour to the colour you want to use then select Foreground to Transparent you will be able to do it.
Plus you can use ones like the transparent rainbow .. :)

Thank you Wendy,
I'll try that tomorrow.

Robyn,
am not sure what you mean, must be a bit thick this morning.
If you mean that you have a radial gradient on one part of your page and you want several more of the same on the same page - select the gradient, select move tool, hold down Alt and you will be able to put as many duplicates as you want on the page.
If I've got it completely wrong, put it down to a Senior Moment:)
