Deleting Photos

Hi all,
I need some help. I am using Windows XP and have PSE-4.
I am trying to delete some photos stored in "My Pictures" and in my organizer catalog. I have attempted to do this as follows:
I select the photos I wish to delete from the organizer, then I right click to bring up the menu where I select "Delete from catalog" which brings up the conformation window.I then select "Also delete selected item(s) from the hard Disk. When I do this the pictures are deleted from the catalog but still remain in the folder in My Pictures. Is this the right approach and I'm missing something? Or is this the wrong approach? I hope someone can help me, because it is hard to sort out when you are trying to deletie several pictures from different places.

Roy,
This sounds like the correct procedure. A quick question-could a duplicate file exist somewhere other than My Pictures so you are deleting these? You could do a quick search on your hard disk to find out. Or look at Properties of a picture in Organizer.

Also, this may be seem a simple question, but did you refresh the view in My PIctures after the files were deleted? (View Refresh in Windows Explorer).

Thanks for your quick response. I've tried your suggestions without much success. I did a test search and found two copies of the same picture (Which I don't understand) so am hopefull I can identify the location of each and determine if in fact that second location is where the deletions are taking place. However since the photo I did the search on was supposed to have been deleted it tells me something isn't working the way it should. And I don't understand yet why I have located two copies. I have established that none of my deletions are affecting the photos in "My Pictures", the are all still there.
Will keep trying.

I am sure you will figure it out. Let us know how you come out.

Here is a "belts and suspenders" suggestion-once you get all the unwanted images deleted, do a File>Catalog>Recover and then Select All>Update Thumbnails. All this should be done by Organizer as you delete the pictures, but sometimes Organizer works better with some housekeeping, especially after large mass changes.

I did not realize from your original post that you were upgrading from Version 3 to Version 4. Not a big deal, but there are some steps Adobe recommends. Here is a link that gives some tips.
