I really like your Valentine. I have one question? How did you make the stars to twinkle like they do?

Kathy,
effective but unusual.
Do I get the hint that you're slightly chocoholic:D

Nancy,

That is JUST BRILLIANT! I love it. What sort of metal layer did you put on the text and frame?

You are very creative and clever - I can't say it enough....I JUST LOVE IT. I JUST LOVE IT, I JUST LOVE IT. . . . . . . . .

I loved it, too, and the idea that it came from a cemetery, that's certainly using your imagination!

Robyn,
Thank you so much. I used a layer style pack called Textured Irridescents. There is a copper green in that pack that I used for the frame and a worn brass for the text. I can't remember if these are part of Elements 3 or if they were a free download from About.com. I will try to figure it out and let you know. There are a lot of free styles there that I have downloaded and use a lot.

Kay - thanks as well. I actually went to take swan pictures to see what I could do with them but liked this little statue when I saw it so snapped the picture to see what I could do with it.

I don't have them in PSE3, but I'd certainly like them.

I've done a very quick web search....and had a look at about.com but can't find them, so if you can come up with their location it would be great.

Robyn,
I found them - they were at About.com

http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/photoshopstyles/p/jwls62.htm

There are dozens of free styles there. They are simple to download and install. Most have instructions. I highly recommend the Sue's Styles sets as well - she does beautiful stuff.

Thank you Nancy, I shall go and have a look now.

What a great site. and thank you for so unselfishly pointing me in that direction...... even more to play with.................I must get a life!!

Robyn,
I just downloaded about 10 more sets that were not there previously. I too really need a life! One tip - if you find something you think you might like - download and decide later. It is really hard to get back to something once you pass it up because the links branch out so much.

Thanks Nancy,
I usually do just download into a file I have just for that purpose and then review later.

This site is like one big lolly shop - and I'm the kid in it. Files that say Photoshop (on this and any other site for that matter) - is it just trial and error to see if they work in Elements.....and can you do any harm to PSE by putting files in that shouldn't be there?

Not that I'll download a heap, because I think it just becomes overkill then - I would imagine that you get so much "stuff" that you would never use it or remember if if was useful.

Robyn, very effective image with cupid in front of the moon

Kev, that is lovely, I would be thrilled to get a card like that :)

Kathy, how indulgent. Love the lighting

Nancy, I would never had thought tolook in a cemetery for inspiration!! Love the colouring of the statue and the frame sets it off beautifully

Nancy,

How clever of you to visit the cemetary! The little statue is perfect and I really do like what you created with it. Really classy (considering where it came from :D ).

I'll be visiting that site you shared as well. Thanks.

Thanks Pat, Kev and Karen
It amazes me the things you start to see when you look for photo ops instead of just looking around. It was just a nice statue and it just sort of drew my attention.

The about.com site is a little difficult to navigate because the links throw you all over the place but there is some really nice stuff there for free.

Ellen, your old Valentine's card look very clear, so I would suggest you can use the close-up on your camera very well. :)

Karen - very creative! I was considering buying an assortment of candy until I saw the cupid statue. Very nicely done!

Ellen - very good close-up shot! I can even see the scales on the fish. Nice job.

Robyn - sorry I didn't see your question about the site earlier. They usually say what programs they work in. Most all of them work in Elements 3 that work in Elements 2 but the folder name to place it in may be slightly different. I know someone like Ray or Wendy could tell you where to place it for 3 from instructions for 2. Some have been there quite a while and 3 was not out yet so it did not mention them, but I did notice John Woods has now added (and higher) to each of his. I did accidently use one for photoshop in Elements and it didn't hurt the program - just said it required the full version when I tried to use it so I uninstalled it - no big deal. I do know what you mean about having too many. When my hard drive crashed I didn't bother reinstalling some that I downloaded but never used or didn't like the results when I did use them.

And thanks for the link ...... more styles ... just what I need

They are all great but Ellen's brought back so many memories for me. I remember my Mom and I working with the lace dollies for hours making the valentine cards for my friends and family. Wow - I have a lump in my throat.

Thanks,Kev!Alice it is,even tho' I seem to identify a bit too strongly with the kitties. At least I still haven't started to crave catnip!I didn't want to take up too much space by posting several times,so I put them all in one post.Eveyone's entries are so good,I didn't want to leave anyone out!

Thanks for the compliments Alice, I enjoyed your animation. It seems as if Raffy is reallly in charge over there...

Some great Valentines this week. Robyn - your cupid and sphere was great! I especially liked the way you avoided the use of red, very daring. Nancy - great thinking "outside the box" to find your cupids in a cemetary. Karen - nice composition. You should be glad the corporate Valentines day behemoth hasn't taken hold down there ... they start putting out the Valentine's stuff here right after New Year's. Ellen - what a great card, nostalgic for me too, but a fish? Tears in my eyes from laughing. Carol - cute kids and a great card to go with them. Bill - What a great shot, it makes it even beyond Valentin's day.
