View Full Version : Elements 3.0 slide show to CD?

Hi folks,

I'm a newbie - both to this forum and to Photoshop Elements. I'm having great fun creating a slide show of a recent vacation and want to burn it to CDs to bore all my friends.

I'm also new to burning CDs and just bought a CD/DVD writer yesterday (it came with Nero software).

Any input on how best to make that transfer would be greatly appreciated. Also, will my soon-to-be-former friends need Photoshop Elements in order to view my sterling production?

Many thanks in advance for your feedback!

Regards,

Dick Gilbert

Hi Dick,

Welcome to the PET Forums :)

With a cd / dvd writer you have two choices... create a VCD using Elements or a DVD with Nero... all your friends will need to view both is a DVD player.

Of these two, DVD is the way to go because the quality of a VCD is at best the same as VHS video, so inferior to a DVD.

Thanks so much for your feedback, Mike! I'm still trying to figure out all the different formats and your suggestion about DVD sounds the best way to go. I've been checking into slide show alternatives to Elements and think I'll give ProShow Gold 2.6 a try.

Dick,

I have ProShow Gold and it is excellent. Another choice of course is Premiere Elements.

I read this thread with the hope of getting some directions as to how to write the slideshow. I made it in the organizer and I can't get it to write to a DVD that is viewable on my TV. I have a new DVD player, so that's not the problem. I can't get the file out of the organizer to put it into another folder. Just how to I write it to a DVD?

I went through 4 disc's today trying to figure this out. I'm sure it's a simple answer, but I can't seem to figure it out.

Thanks,

Kathy

Mike-

I was salivating last month as I sat down to finally load PE 2.0 on my computer. It had waited patiently in it's jewel case for at least a month while I sent in the rebate forms and continued my quest for new projects in PSE 4.0.....well, my computer does not has SSE2  . I cannot upgrade, so I would need a bigger better beast. I don't have the funds for it now (that shiny new 350D and assorted lens took care of that a few weeks ago ;) )
I did so much comparing and thought PE would be the best. Now I have a new copy of PSE 4.0 and PE 2.0 (I bought a single version to begin with, then a bundle, since it was so cheap) and can't use it (PE). I have Roxio on a laptop and my downstairs PC, and I tried a trial of Nero (didn't really like it). Will Pro Show Gold be "it" in my quest to burn my PSE slide shows to DVD??? Would Roxio work at all? I have a disk for it.
I do know how to check out the sys req., for PSG, but I've already typed all this out and now I will just trail off............

Hi, I just signed up today. I have been using a fantastic program for slideshows that is easy and fun and gets beautiful results for all to enjoy those vacations or moments in time. Take a look at it at "memoriesontv.com". I think you will be impressed.

Hi - I got Proshow after reading a thread here. You can see what I did with my vacation slides by going into www.Photodex.com/sharing and using the name shar
Now - the slides were fun to do and pretty easy - well very easy compared to learning Elements 3. The problem is that I cannot e-mail the slide shows as stated and after corresponding with my server and Pro-Show - who take ages to get back to you - I have had no luck. Even with trying a very small one. I think they want you to put these slides on their viewing site so one will do like I did and think - isn't that neat - and buy! As far as burning. I tried a CD while using the free trial with no luck - but I plan to finish our cruise photos tomorrow and try to burn a DVD. I will let you know here.

Am I hearing that the slide show capabilities of PSE 4 are not very sophisticated? I want to create a slide show celebrating my parents 60th anniversary. I would like to be able to add transition effects, control pan and zoom features, have two or more images fade into different quadrants of the screen one after the other and remain in position on the screen to fade out together or individually. Nothing too jazzy, but a little more than just one image fading in after another. I don't need video capability.

Is PSE enough, or should I be considering other S/W? The little research I've done makes me think that ProShow Gold would be suitable, but its very hard to tell from the reviews just exactly what it can do. Premiere Elements sounds like it might be overkill, but with a rebate, the price difference is not so disparate as to disuade me from staying in the Adobe family, if that is even a consideration. I'd love any feedback you experienced sliders can share.

Kristy,

I don't quite follow why you can't upgrade PE2?

Kristy,

If you look at the Roxio software that you have -

will it make a Video DVD ?
if yes, will it accept a WMV file as the input for the process that makes the Video DVD?
if yes, you can probably save your PSE4 slide show as a WMV file using DVD, NTSC (or PAL according to which country) - then use that WMV file as the input to the Roxio software to make a video DVD.
This is actually similar to one of the ways you could have used Premiere Elements to author and burn the PSE 4 slide show (if you could run PE 2 on your machine). You don't by chance have Premiere Elements 1, do you? (I am not suggesting buying PE 1 if you don't already have it; but if you do you could burn the DVD using PE1 if you have it installed.)

A dedicated slide show program may well give you more functions, but my philosphy is to check out the software that I already have first.

Hi again,
Maylynn - is that a Dachshund puppy???

OK - I did a DVD of all my cruise ports today. Came to about 40 minutes. Did it with Pro Show and it worked - although I was not too impressed with the quality of photos. They were better on the computer and on Pro Shows presentation site. But it did work. Still no luck with e-mails though.

Maureen - you can try a free download of ProShow Gold. From what you are explaining you may need (I think it is called Producer) to do the fading you are talking about. However I am very new to the programme and maybe you can do this and I don't know.

You can also run into a problem with a vcd not working at all on some older DVD players, as I found out with mine. There is a web site

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php

It will tell you if your player has vcd capability
