I missed the post, but thanks, HT, I was hoping that someone who owned it would jump in before I decided to buy it. Will it be useful for Graphire owners as well? Thanks:)

It looks as though it would be, Carol. Here is a Cut and Paste from the description...it sounds fairly generically geared towards all models to me.

"The most complete training on the Wacom Tablet and Adobe Photoshop ever! This video will show you how to make full use of all the features and techniques avaliable to you. Set up your tablet correctly and stop working like a mouse user in Photoshop. Two of the Top instructors in the industry combine their talents to bring you a video that will totally change the way you approach graphics on your computer.

If you currently own, or are considering a pen tablet, this video is one of the best investments you can make.."

It's where I bought my digital camera...it's where I bought my digital camera acessories ...I've also bought photo paper from there ....probably other things that I can't think of right now :) I tend to check there first when i'm looking to buy something since they tend to have better prices and nothing they sell is grey market....unlike way too many other sites !

Regarding the Wacom DVD. I was speaking to Wacom Customer Service today and the lady I was speaking with, highly recommended the above mentioned DVD. She said it was the best presentation on the Wacom tablet that is on the market today, and well worth the $39.99. This was not a sales pitch, because she said the site that is offering has no association with Wacom.

I'm going to give it at try. Based on her, and HT's recommendation.

I bought the DVD...or more precisely I bought the download version.

A couple of things...I do recommend this DVD if you are new to using the Intuos 3 Tablet. I was and it gave me many hints and ideas on how to do new and creative things.

Just two glitches to report.
1. In the opening screen there is a reference to 'extras' that come with the DVD to enhance PhotoShop and your pad. They are not included in the downloaded version. You have to write them and they will send you a link. The reason they didn't include it? To save download time (which is a novel idea if you don't have DSL or Cable...but there is no mention of this in the download notice nor am I given an option to download a version with or without the extras).
2. The videos are precise and clear. The DVD is divided into two sections. One is the possible way to set up your tablet...especially if you have an Intuos 3 tablet. And the genteleman who is guiding you throught the set-up (Weston Magio) does indeed say this is just one way to set it up (the way he has it) but would encourage you to think about how you would set up the tablet for 'the way you use photoshop'. One is left thinking he will delve into other suggestions later in the video...he does not. Then the video on PhotoShop tecniques is hosted by a different person (Colin Smith).

I found it disconcerting that Colin does not have the same tablet set-up that we were just guided through. It makes doing some of the assignments a tad confusing as he references tablet shortcuts that we don't have on our keyboard. I would think since this was a DVD to represent using the tablet and it's shortcut keys that there would have been a consistancy between the two instructors settings. Plus as you can hear in the presentation Colin does have to backtrack a bit and let you know of a tablet keyboard setup that he apprentaly does not normally use but remembers from time to time since he is teaching this DVD on the tablet). Very disconcerting.

But as I said a good DVD, but some things to know about ahead of time before you buy it.

I'm looking to get a Wacom tablet to work on custom maps and artwork at home (hobby not professionally). Which line would you folks recommend, Graphire or Intuos? Also which size tablet and any other helpful advice for a tablet newbie. Thanks in advance. :)

Hi! A lot depends on your budget, I guess. I use the Graphire 4x5 and find it sufficient for my needs...PSEing images. But I also didn't want to spend the extra money for an Intuos. I have put away my mouse and use it exclusively. There are very few instances where I miss the mouse, but probably partly because I use the touchpad on my laptop sometimes.

Lots of people have mentioned they got a larger size and were a bit sorry because it does need that extra room on your desk. Go to a store and try them out. They do take a bit of getting used to, but you should be able to see the differences if you try both the Intuos and the Graphire side by side. One thing about the Intuos I would have liked to have had were the extra keys. They must be helpful. But I don't know if the extra pen pressure levels would have been necessary.

Whichever you choose, I am sure you will be happy to have it!

Thanks for the heads up on this Carol. It does specify that is is for Photoshop, does anyone know if it is worth the money if you're using Elements instead of Photoshop? Also it sounds like it might be geared more toward the Intuos, what about us Graphite users?

I was going to ask the same question...I presume it would still be OK for those of us using Elements rather than its big brother?

I have the Intuos 3 8x6 (bought because I got a VERY good deal which made it the cheapest option, cheaper even than the 4x5 or the Graphire)but I've never bothered setting up the tablet, just used it straight from the box.....sure could do with some pointers.....

I recently got this... I have to say, it was a total waste of money.
Honestly, if you've never used a tablet, and have no clue how they function, this will help you. However, its a total of 24 chapters,
-2 chapters for welcome, and goodbye messages.
-14 chapters for playing with the setup menus and configuring your extra buttons ect.. (most of which you'll figure out yourself, just by opening the tablet config app).
-4 chapters of different pens, and on tablet button examples.
and only about 4 actual chapters of real tutorials. and they contain info you will learn from most other "basics of PS" style tutorial packages.

Deke is still probably the best source for PS tuts over at lynda.com, and he'll cover this info on using your tablet as well.

I actually signed up for these forums just to share that with you. Figured you guys should have the opinion of an experienced user on the product.

Like I said, if your a total nub to tablets and PS it can help. Otherwise, its junk.
