I am new to Elements - am having some success learning by using Kelbys manual but have some VERY basic questions that I hope an experienced user could help me with.
Using Organizer, I select an image that I wish to manipulate in Editor. I select an image and then "dupicate" it so as retain the original. I then do a quick fix in Editor and then save it. However, when I save it I often get a grey broken graphic and not my image. I don't know why that happens.
Could some experienced person list a recommended process or workflow to select an image, create a copy for manipulaion and then save it back into Organizer. You would make my day. Thanks in advance.

I'm new at this tooo. I not only get broken picturesl- almost like when you have save name when you save it. but I also get pictures that are about 1 pix. wide. When I go in to try to re-size it won't resize. However in other edit software it comes out normal ??

Hi there ...
... and welcome to the forum :)
I can't help on this one as the Mac version of PSE doesn't have the Organiser ... but hopefully one of the Windows users will be along soon and will be able to help you :)

Good morning,
I can't help you with the weird happenings surrounding "duplicate images" as I've never experienced this. However, you asked about "workflow" and here is a little snippet from the Adobe Help Centre on that topic.
As you work on your photos in the Editor, perform the following tasks in the order listed:
Specify a color management option
View the image at 100% and crop if necessary
Before making any color corrections, view the image at a zoom percentage of 100%. At 100%, Photoshop Elements displays the image most accurately. You can also check for image defects, such as dust spots or scratches. If you plan to crop the file, do it now to save on memory requirements and to ensure that the histogram uses only relevant information.
Check the scan quality and tonal range
Look at the image’s histogram to evaluate whether the image has sufficient detail to produce high-quality output. (See To view a histogram.)
Resize your image, if necessary
Resize your image to the size that you need if you are going to use it in another application or project. If you are going to print it or use it in a Photoshop Elements creation, you generally don’t need to resize it. (See About image size and resolution.)
Adjust the highlights and shadows
Begin corrections by adjusting the values of the extreme highlight and shadow pixels in the image (also known as the tonal range). Setting an overall tonal range allows for the most detail possible throughout the image. This process is known as setting the highlight and shadow or setting the white and black points. (See About Levels adjustments.)
Adjust the color balance
After correcting the tonal range, you can adjust the image’s color balance to remove unwanted color casts or to correct oversaturated or undersaturated colors. With some Photoshop Elements Auto commands, both the tonal range and color are corrected in one step. (See Adjusting saturation and hue.)
Make other special color adjustments
Once you have corrected the overall color balance of your image, you can make optional adjustments to enhance colors. For example, you can increase the vividness of color in your image by increasing its saturation.
Retouch the image
Use the retouching tools, like the Spot Healing Brush, to remove any dust spots or defects in the image. (See To remove spots and imperfections.)
Sharpen the edges of the image
As a final step, use the Unsharp Mask filter to sharpen the clarity of edges in the image. This step helps restore detail and sharpness that tonal adjustments may reduce.(See To use Unsharp Mask to sharpen an image.)

Hi & Welcome to the Forum,
I'm afraid I don't use the Organizer either, but from what I understand Organizer only saves a link to your photo & displays a thumbnail, not the entire image. (stores only info about where to find your photo) I think the grey broken icon you see means that the link is broken to your actual image - i.e. Organizer can't find it. Sorry I can't help with a solution.
In Editor, try using File Browser to locate and open your photos; you'll likely be able to find the ones you can't see in Organizer - In the top menu bar it is File >Browse Folders.
There is a video tutorial on the organizer in the Learning Centre here, altho not sure sure it will address your specific problem. It's simply titled "Organizer" - here's the link, scroll down and you will find it listed:

Hopefully more specific help from other members will be along soon....

Hi and welcome to the forum. These are the steps I perform when working on a photo.
1. Find the photo in Org. that I want. Select the shot.
2. Select Standard Edit mode.
3. Use Layers to make a dup of photo.
4. Make any adjustments needed to that dup.
5. When finished, save as.
6. Close out that shot.
I don't know if this helps but let us know and we'll work on the problem again. Bob

Ahh...yes. I guess I didn't read her post carefully enough. Sorry. I use the same "wokflow" as Ward outlined above. All edits to a duplicate layer. File>Save As>name.psd. Original remains intact.

Hello Sdudra
I understand you want a workflow but first you need to find your broken links. Start your Photobrowser from the Editor. Go to the main menu and select File>Reconnect>All Missing files.
If your files are there this will find them but it may take some time.
As was stated the organizer only stores links and if you like, sets up directories to look in automatically.
This is important... if you move, or delete photos outside of Elements or the organizer, say the file manager, you will get the grayed ? with a date. It is ok to use the file manager but you will need to run the reconnect again for the organizer to show the picture and location.
