Hi
I need some help with downloading and installing freebies, and would be grateful for any help anyone can give me on this. The downloading is not a problem, i do it and save it to my docs, extract and thats pretty simple, even for me. The problem i have is exactly how to install them into PSE2. If i have the procedure correct, i follow the path to the appropriate location, as follows.
c/ programme files/adobe/elements 2
Then what? I assume that it depends what the file is, the one i have downloaded is a plug in, does it matter where i put it, i cant actually recall what type it is, but does it matter? Does the thing have to be put into effects or wherever, before it can be used in PSE2. I think that i have to wait to restart the programme before i can use the new stuff, but whever i put them, i cant seem to get at them again.
I feel pretty dim:eek: , but its a bit of a mystery to me, help please.
Thanks in anticipation
Regards David

David,
Can you tell us the extension of the file you've downloaded (the one extracted) ? Like 8bi, or ATN, or ASL ? This will help us to tell you where the file goes :)

Hi Ray
The files are 8BF, i presume this extension dictates where the file has to go. I actually put them in the effects folder, where it seems all the other files there are also 8BF.

Hi David ...
One of the easiest way to work out where downloads go is by the file extention ... generally if you find a group that match then put it in there.
I guess that it is a plug in you have downloaded ... so it would go in the plug ins folder.
Which plug in is it ? ... and where did you get it from ??

David,
A file ending with 8BF is a plug-in and it should be deposited in the plug-in folder. For Windows :
C:\PROGRAM FILES\ADOBE\PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 2\PLUG-INS\
Remember to restart if Photoshop Elements is already running whlie you copy the files.
Hope this helps!

David I know how you feel. I'm having the same problem in PSE 4. the question I mainly have is the plug-ins that are under the help folder. Are all of them already installed and if not do I install by the Software. Oh by the way, On my question about reflecting an image in water I fig. it out. Thanks to all.

Hi
Just a quick word of thanks to those who offered their advice re downloading.
I am still having trouble, but i think it may be my PC thats the cause. I am going to try to do it on my lap top.
Thanks again
David:)

And some plug-ins don't appear in Filters. For example, Human Software has a spyrograph plug-in that shows up in the Select menu.

Hi
Still playing around trying to get my head around the problem. I downloaded Grants tools, took me a while to figure it all out, but in the end i managed to do it, not exactly a eureka moment but not far short of it. I seem to have missed actually extracting the files themselves, maybe i extracted just the folder, not really too sure. However i know have all those tools available for use, all i need now is to figure out how to use them, it will happen, but i may well be retired by the time it does.
Thanks for your help folks, i think that maybe the other stuff i tried to install wasnt compatible with elements. None of it was vital, just me trying to fathom stuff out really. Can you perhaps advise me of any download sites that offer free stuff, that is compatible with PSE2.
thanks a lot for everything
David :)

Hi David ...
If you go back to Grant's site then you will see that he has done tutorials on all his tools ...
For other downloads try Adboe Studio Exchange:

A lot of the things for Photoshop do work in Elements ... try out the brushes, custom shapes, displacement maps, gradients, patterns, styles and you will find that they work.

A lot of plug ins don't work in PSE 4. This is why a lot of us have stayed with PSE 3. Adobe blocked them. Reason? Possibly elements was getting too advanced and stopping upgrade to CS2?

Hi
First thanks again, and to Chris, i really like your quote, all the gear, no idea, can i steal that please, its so me:D
I noticed the tutorials for Grants stuff, very useful and just what someone like me needs, hand holding works, at least i hope it does.
I also sought in vain to find againa pic someone posted that struck a real chord with me, it was on old photo of kids playing decades ago. As i was a kid decades ago, and seem to be becoming one again quite quickly, my memories were aroused. As a child i played in bombed out buildings in a North London suburb around 1950 ish, completely impervious to the dirt and grime that i, and my mates accumulated whilst we were engaged as commandoes and Germans. We were also impervious to, and ignorant of the dangers from collapsing walls, vanishing floorboards, and often our mothers berating us. Wonderful days, kids today miss such a lot.
Nuff of that, the photo was great, whoever posted it.

Hi Wendy
Yes thats the one, maybe a bit earlier than my childhood, hard to say really, but its still nostalgic. I lived in London from the age of five until i got married and we moved out in 1971, i have lived in a lot of different parts of the UK, Born in Wales, lived in Cornwall, now live on the East Coast in Essex. I would hate to live in London now, though i am quite proud of the place despite its problems. Do you live in the UK, i seem to get the feeling that you actually live in the US. Thanks for the tips by the way.

Hi David ...
No I'm in the UK ...
I'm really a Lancastrian but in 1986 took on a job in the city of London (yes I worked in Banking :) ) then finally we were relocated to Coventry in 1990. We still live in the Midlands :)
