Hi,
I'm brand new to Elements 4.0 - I'm using the magic selection tool to selectively enhance only part of my photo - but I get a halo around my selection caused by stray pixels from the background. If you paste an image into anouther you can use "defringe" to correct this but I'm not removing my selection from the photo - I just want to correct only one portion of the photo and I can't find an option to help me get rid of that halo effect.
Can anyone help?

Try Select>Modify>Contract and put in a number like 2 (you may need more). Then Select>Modify>Feather and put in the same number.

That should help although depending on what you're trying to do making a selection that way might not be the best solution. Using adjustment layers and painting on the mask or the bits you don't want changing usually works a lot better.

PS Welcome to the forum. You've come to the right place to learn how to use PSE4!

Hello AnneM

I may be misunderstanding what you want but..... When you have your selection made, Press Ctrl+J this puts your selection on it's own layer. Then in the layer pallet lock transparency.
