I just got the new newsletter that shows how to make a template of rectangles for scrapbook images. The instructions are not working for me as written. I have the template set up but I CANNOT move a picture into one of the rectangles. When I move it the picture opens a different page and it does not go into the rectange. Can anyone clear up this mess for me?

Hi there ...

Most of us haven't got the newsletter yet ... but hopefully someone who has will be along soon :)

Well I am doing exactly what it is telling me to do and the only results I am getting is frustration.

Hi there ...

It must be really frustrating ... but until I get the magazine I'm afraid that I can't help :(

Sorry that I was so frustrated, my girlfriend straightened it all out for me. You have to make your temolate with all the squares and rectangles like in a scrapbook. Then open your pictures that you want to put in the scrapbook. Then this is where I got messed up. You have to click on a picture to bring it up in the main screen, using the move tool you then click and drag it to the template that you made on the bottom of the screen. This will make it a layer in your template. Move the picture above the layer that showes the rectangle you want to use then go to layers->group with previous. You can then click on the picture layer and hit cntrl-t to size it to the size of your rectangle. The magazine does not describe these steps in enough detail for someone like me who is brand spanking new to the program. Thank you.

Hi there ...

Oh I am so glad that you have been able to sort it out ... it was just a shame that you were one of the first people to get the newsletter. Usually we would have been queueing up to help you ...

When you first get Elements everything is such a large learning curve but there is just so much that you can do with it. Do hope that you are enjoying using it :)

Wow, looky there, hadn't opened the newsletter yet but as I was reading this thread it was so familiar. So glanced in the newletter. This is the exact technique taught in a session I attended at the Pro. Photog. of Nebraska convention this weekend for use in laying out flush mount wedding album pages! I have all these instructions scribbled down in a notebook!

One suggestion made there is (epecially if you are using a black background) to fill your squares with some bright color to make it easy to see if your photo doesn't quite come to the edge of a square space. Sometimes hard to see until it's printed. Also if you have a lot of squares you can fill with different colors to make it easy to see in the layers pallette which layer a particular square is on.
