Calling all artist ...

If you take part in the Challenge you do have the option of having your Portrait placed in the Artists Gallery. Just send me you image and I will resize it and do all the grunt work.

If you also have a web site I will gladly post a link to the web site. I have a benefactor so when it comes to the Challenge web site I comply with four of her conditions and one of them may affect my posting your web site. Please no commercial, hate, spam or malware web sites other than that all is good. I do have a bit of wiggle room on the commercial thingy in that if I figure it is of value to the graphic world and is small potatoes I will post. it.

I do have lots of other e-ddresses but very rarely use them. So please send to either the Challenge or my home email address.

Hi Wendy.
It's the Dual 2.3 with a 23" HD display.
I immediately installed 4 Gigs of RAM and a 300 Gig Seagate internal drive, partioned half for a PS scratch disk.
At first, I thought the display was just bigger but it actually is clearer
than my iMac.
The machine is quite nice, very fast.
Had some glitches where I didn't realize some software had to be updated for Tiger.
Made my little G5 (http://web.mac.com/tommurray2/iWeb/1/G5.html) site with iWeb.

23 inches cinema display... wow !!! The display of an ACD is clearer than an iMac, at least I came to the same conclusion. We have an iMac and my Powermac and on the iMac, the image isn't as clear, though it's ok if you don't do lots of graphics.

Did you also got iLife '06 ?

Congrats, nice machine :D

Hi David, I though I was.
Oh... you mean get paid.

Hi Ward, I think you are envious not jealous.:D

Hi Ray, screen clarity is like knowlege or conciousness, you can only really evaluate where you have been.
Yes I did get iLife 06.
iPhoto is way fast and can handle 250,000 images

I just love it :)

iPhoto is also full of little additions, like Keywords on two columns, the ability to compare several pictures at a time, etc. It's a wonderful update!

Hi Tom ...

I have 2.5 Gigs of RAM installed and have been wondering if its worth installing any extra ??

Wow I bet that 23 inch screen looks just wonderful :)

Do you work on anything that seems to need more memory?
Spinning beachball?

Tom ...

My current project, which has too many layers to count, started to slow up the Mac ... but as I had the layers grouped it was easy enough to copy each new group to another file then flatten the group in my image. So far I have done that with 37 groups and manged to keep my project file size at around 130 MB ... but with another 150MB in the layered groups which I have saved individually.

Thats working OK without too much slow down but when the file sized originally reached 200 + MB then it was a problem. (Not sure that even at 150MB its a slow as the old iMac was ... but I guess you just get used to things going faster )

Wow Wendy! That's quite a machine. I'm surprised that a 200 MG file would slow it down with 2.5 GB of Ram. I have a little 526 MG cracker box that would explode with files that size.

Wow Wendy - that's quite a project! I can't even comprehend one that large or involved. Do hope you will share it when it's finished.

Nancy ...

I will share it ... but its going to be a while yet as I still have quite a bit to do :)

Hi Norm ...

I suspect that the problem is you get used it it being really fast ... so a ten second slow down seems a very long time :)

Wendy,

As far as I know, PSCS only uses 2 GB of RAM, max. So if you put more, you won't see a big deal of difference. Unless you also run memory intensive apps while in PSCS.

It always seems to work that way. You think you've got plenty of juice at the outset but it doesn't take that long for you to get quicker than the computer. The machine is really hard to beat at math but artsy things seem to keep it thinking a little slower.

Norm ...

I think that I just get impatient :)

Mind you some of the complex filters do take up a lot of power ..

Wendy, do you have a sratch disk?

PS may use 2Gs but if you have anything else going, the full 2Gs won't be available.
Plus you only have it set for 70% usage.

There are some filters like in EyeCandy that just take some time to write.

Hi Tom ...

Yes I have a nice expance of scratuch disk set up ... I suspect that it isnt really slowed down very much on large files its just me being impatient :)
