That would be interesting, if it's substantiated.

So let me see if I have this straight. In 1492 Christopher Columbus, an Italian, found America for Spain. No ... wait, a Chinese seafarer Zheng found America somewhere between 1405 and 1433. Ok got that. Woops, Leif Ericson found it around 1000 AD the Norse set up home in L'Anse aux Meadows at about the same time. Hmmm where did the Indians come from ... oh I see ... Asia about 20,000 years ago. Oh my head is spinning ... oh I get it Bugs Bunny really did find America first, now everything is falling into place.

Grant, have I told you lately that I love you ? :)
You know how things go...everything has to have a record that is proven fact. The fact that they still don't know anything about alot of ancient ruins means absolutely nothing...since it was never recorded then it is just a figment of the world's imagination.

Diana, Grant has ben a dear friend to me for quite some time. The green GTO car in my gallery was one of the first serious images I attempted with Elements....but I needed help with one of the aspects...the liscence plate. I searched high and low on the net for the right colors that the liscence plate would have been on the year this particular model GTO was marketed. I read some posts from Grant on the other Adobe site and he seemed so helpful. I decided I'd e-mail him and ask him if he knew of any sites that displayed vintage liscence plates...within a few hours he sent me the link that helped me finish my image. Since then our relationship has grown considerably. Grant is always there for me. He has changed my life in many ways. He is special to me. There isn't enough love in this world but I'd like to change that one breath at a time....when it's there why hide it ?

Jodi,
I just looked through your gallery again and aside from the usual stunning images I noticed two "ad" style montages. Do you do advertising? They are both quite "eye grabbing".

Nancy, I want to do advertising.... among so many other things. I'm just all over the place with stuff and I can't seem to concentrate on 1 thing and be serious about it...instead I waste my time scratching the surface in a dozen different directions and I drive myself nuts. Somehow over the years I have completely lost focus. I would really love to do advertising tho...

Jodi - I think you would be wonderful at it. Both images certainly look like they are right from the pages of magazines.

Jodi, yes it is wonderful when people spread love and kindness around. Ray has done a great favor for me involving help with a graphics project and I know how much that means. I just can't believe how all the people on this forum are so generous with their knowledge and time, going the extra mile to help others out. What a great bunch!:D
I love your gallery, too. Your photos of your kids are just gorgeous. And I don't mean just the kids (they are adorable) but the way you have caught them on film and the effects you have added. Is that blue old wood frame from a photograph or did you create it?

Diana, I love making wood in Elements and I have done it a dozen or so ways using different tools and foundations...that one in particular I wouldn't be able to tell you off hand which method I used...but I'll give you a simple approach that can get you started and give you an idea on how it works.
This is based on a 800 X 800 px image at 72 ppi...
create a New Document in Elements and then go to the effects palette and choose ' cold lava '>go to filter>blur>motion blur>Angle=0, 246. Then go to filter texture>craquelure with settings from top to bottom; 2,0,3. To color wood go to layer>new fill layer>solid color, set to either 'color' blend mode or 'multiply' and choose a color.
Now the whole key idea behind making wood is giving the craquelure filter something to play with. I can't tell you how many different ypes of images I've played with.
Other ways I have enjoyed making wood is using the filter>distort>wave on an image that has a couple of different colors...keeping the vertical scaling at 1 and then playing with the sliders t'il I get the vertical effect I want and then applying the craquelure filter at those same settings.
Of course there is usually tweaking afterwards.... :)

Thanks, Jodi, for the mini tutorial. I'll have to try it when I get home. In my previous post, I didn't mean "film" of course--what would be the equivalent term now with digital cameras?
Thanks, Ray, I was hoping you'd see the kudos I gave you. You're worth every little kuuuu and doooo. :D

Diana, these days I think 'pics' is the proper terminology since everyone assumes it's digital unless otherwise stated :) ...I knew what you meant tho....no need to come back and clarify ;)

How could you resist ? It had your name all over it :D
I think Ansel Adams would have enjoyed playing with digital images.
I think my father would have loved 'computer' graphics and design. Everything was pen and paper when he was doing it for a living. Sometimes I feel like he's standing over my shoulder in amazement at what can be done with a computer and a Wacom. I sometimes look behind me cause I know someone is there. I feel it all the time....tho I know I wont see anything but I still look on occasion. Not sure who it is but would like to think it's him. Anyways, technology moves forth in leaps and bounds....take and use what you want to it's fullest potential and let the rest fly by. There will always be something to keep us all amuzed. Digital just happens to be the way of the wave right now. Ride it or let it be...we all have a choice. Thank God for that !

Oh Wendy....gosh there are so many great ways to make great wood ! I really just play alot with different images and tools and see what that craquelure filter will do with it :) Using the render>clouds with a couple of good contasting colors and then using a little motion blur and then applying the craquelure does nice too :) I did some really great wood about a month ago but still haven't used it for anything...but it's there if I need it. I love that filter ! :)

oh before I forget...try using the rosewood in the effects palette and add a motion blur to it and then apply the craquelure filter...that is some nice wood ! ...Cut it up and make a frame :)
