View Full Version : Lets have a vote on reputation points

Never done a poll before but having seen the thread on Reputation Points, and not being totally unbiased on the subject, I thought we should at least have a show of hands on whether or not we'd like the forum admin to disable it. You have a week to vote :) . If you don't know what they are read this thread: http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5699

I say no, no, and no. The friendly nature of this place is one of the best things going. No need to mess with that!

No thanks! We're a pretty happy "family" here, and there's no need to change the mood from cooperation to competition.

My vote is no not needed. The simple fact of the matter is that if someone gets snarky and out of hand on here we have the choice to ingore them. In the end the only one that looses is that person because if they ticked off all the 'happy' people here, there won't be anyone to help them when they ask for it! In the 11 months since I've been on this list I have only run across one person, and they have either changed their name or disappeared. When they asked for help after causing so many problems their post went unanswered. Problem solved. If they came back under a different name, they obviously changed their attitude.

I'm torn. I like having a way of warning folks about folks who abuse the forum. I vote positive on everyone and since the feature has been enabled I posted a negative rep on one person who just didn't get it. They were so focused on brining disharmony, I dinged them. Felt right.
I don't think it's necessary, but I want a direct way to warn the admins of a putz. Should be a Putz Alert link!!!

Brice,
The red triangle (near the scale) is your tool! If you see something wrong, click on it, make a few choices and an administrator will be notified very quickly.

I vote no, and I take offense to the "Putz" reference by Brice. One of the best cats I ever had, Mr. Putz, died at the tender age of 2 from FIV. Therefore, I'm casting Brice a negative vote. See how screwed this rating system can be?

I find the reputaion feature easy to ignore. The animated avatars are really annoying though.

I voted an emphatic no to the Reputation Points.
There is a more effective, direct method available to inform PET of problems, making the reputation thing pointless and troublesome.
Thanks for initiating the poll Tony, it's an appropriate approach to letting PET know how members are feeling.

I have voted NO, just can't understand why the reputation feature is necessary in a site where people are sharing ideas, knowledge, technical expertise, etc..
I too had never paid any attention to the symbol.
Also don't understand why a site administrator
has'nt pitched in with an explantion.

It was just a feature that came with the board. No one used it that I was aware of until recently and there hadn't been a problem with it till recently...As for the site admin explanation, I posted that on another one of these threads...saying I would check with IT to see if it can be turned off. I'll let everyone know when I find out:)

Thanks Tami. I know most of us have never even bothered about it but as new people are joining they appear to want to know the what, where and how :)

Thanks Tami: Turning it off will be good. Unfortunately the way it was set up with everyone getting 10 points to start, just one negative vote was enough to change someone's "reputation" and take them off "the distinguished road" - which is not exactly a pleasant welcome. You can see from this poll what everyone thinks about it. I'm sure the moderator can handle any issues ;)

I'm not too fussed if it can't be turned off ... after all up to now we have pretty much ignored it :) and I am sure that in the future we will do again !

Heck I voted to keep the point system. After all I have ten points towards the next prize and ... get this it is a new red Vet .... with all the goodies.

Sorry Grant but you need another 40 points for the next prize and that's not a Vet - just "Grant will become famous soon enough" - and I thought you already were :D

I don't see any putz points for me... Steven my apologies to your late cat. May he rest in peace chasing little angel mice all over cat heaven.
Now that I know what the little yeild sign is all about, I fall on the no side as well. Funny how I want a way to cast dispersion, but feel no need to cast kudos... Such is the American way. An unhappy customer will tell 7 out of 10 people about, but a happy customer will talk only if asked.

Brice,
That's funny!! Thought something similar myself. Most of us humans are perfectly capable of being judgmental without reputation points to tell us which way to go.
P.S. Love the hair!!

Brice- When we rescued that little kitten we named him Lixo, or some Portuguese bastardization of the word "garbage", since that is where I found him. My wife kept calling him "the little putz" and we soon found ourselves changing his name. We gave him the "Mr." so he could have some dignity. I do hope you realize I was being tounge in cheek.
I changed my avatar picture to recognize him. The guy with the marmot picture doesn't like animated avatars and I didn't want to get any negative points for that so that was another reason.. Now that the system is suspended I just might......

Steven ...
He is gorgeous :) ... although being a male cat I suppose I should say "Hansome". By the way I love his name :)

Alas Wendy, he was handsome. We lost him to feline leukemia. He tested positive when we got him and after talking to a myriad of vets and doing research we were able to introduce him to the other cats in the household (indoor cats ) who were up on their vaccine. We got two great years from him before he became ill and we had to put him down. My wife and I take in special need cats and we lost 4 in 2003, but losing Mr. P was the hardest because of his age, not to mention the fact that he was such a loving and appreciative companion.

Steven,
He looks just like our cat who we lost to the same disease.

Nancy- I sure love the big orange male cats like Bubba and Mr. Putz. Feline leukemia is a strange disease. Our neighbors had a cat that lived to be 7 or 8 before he showed symptoms, though they knew she was a carrier for years.. How old was yours when he died?
We currently have a 20 pound orange monster named Angus Chang. He was rescued from behind a Chinese restaurant so we gave him a name that recognized both his Gaelic and Asian roots. He has IBD (irritable bowel disease) but my wife has a magic potion that keeps it under control. He keeps the chairs warm.

Steven,
He was, unbelievably, 18 years old when he died. He was diagnosed with it at 17. He was a big, beautiful cat and I miss him a lot. He found me at about 6 months old (was a stray who chose to live with us) and he survived getting locked in a neighbors garage for 5 days, being in the jaws of a rottweiler, kidney infection and 2 broken ribs (fell from a tree) but couldn't beat that. :(

I voted no. Everybody here has something positive to add and there is no need to start a popularity contest or cause hard feelings.
