Now that we've all had something to eat it's time to pick up our cameras and head out. This week's theme is architecture. Whether a modern building in the city, a country church or a bird's nest, it's up to you.

Good weather yesterday, even some blue sky for a change, and nice and quiet around town. So a good opportunity to get the camera out. Took lots, here's a sample of the architecture in small town Ontario. Had to finish up deleting the blue sky as it didn't quite fit :)

Here is my entry - the Donnybrook Amphitheatre.

The amphitheatre is on the banks of the Preston River and the Shire Council has recently built the tiers and grassed between them. The stone is Donnybrook sand stone and has subtle colouring ranging from almost pure white to a purpley/red.

Here's my image - the Clark Bridge which crosses the Mississippi River at Alton IL. This shot was taken from the wildlife refuge at the base of the bridge on the Missouri side.

I have posted my entry. Forgot how to include the pic in my thread, so used Pixentral.

Can anyone tell me where my architectural gem is located?

And Yes, it was photographed this week!

Hi Eleanor -

You can post it to your gallery and put a link here. Or you can try www.imageshack.us (http://www.imageshack.us) or www.pixentral.com (http://www.pixentral.com) . Either one will let you post your photo free of charge and put a link here. Looking forward to your post.

hi
ok, not sure why i'm doing this, because i really am a beginner at both photography and PSE, but what the heck!
this is on the campus of MIT where i work - it's a building designed by Frank Geary, and is very cool - i made the sky a bit bluer because it got rather cloudy this afternoon, and added the little MIT sign at the bottom....

(New California is a Very small hamlet near Leamington,Ontario-a church and about 6 houses-and not a palm tree or surfer in sight!)

I was hard-pressed to come up with a beautiful building in our town unfortunately - we don't have any; then there's the matter of all this snow.

So I chose a building which is significant to me, our Community Hospital. I hadn't realized how much it has deteriorated until I looked at the photos. It is another of the common situations in Canada, where an amalgamation of hospitals has taken place, a modern new one is in the works and what should be preserved as our history is receiving minimal care at best and eventually lost.

Anyway, enough nostalgia and on to the photo. Use of the filter was an attempt to make the deterioration less ugly but it also suits the time period. The snow ruled the shots and also the editing! It was a difficult image to work with and won't win any awards - but I learned alot which is the main thing.

Straightening was a nightmare - using one edge as the focus made another edge crooked - advice would be welcomed. Cleaning up all the busy mess on the building would have improved it but I decided to leave it in its glorious original state.

Here's a sample of one of Portland's many floating homes, this one located on the Willamette River.

Now that's a house boat worthy of the name!I think they have those in Vancouver, too.Ever watch the old series,"The Beachcombers"?The character "Relic" had one,but it was more like a floating shack due for demolition at any moment.
