We visited the Chinese New Year display at the Bellagio Hotel here in Las Vegas. It was beautiful. Are there any similar celbrations where you are?

Hi Mary ...

Oh those are simply delightful ... are the main characters all made out of flowers ?

Then I lived in both Manchester and London there were fair sized Chinese population in the cities so the celebrations were really great ...

Hi Wendy - we have many Asian visitors to Las Vegas so I think that is probably why they do this. The large male figure's robes are made with silk fabric but the children's clothes are flowers. We are even going to go back again.:)

it was years and years ago the last time i saw something like this...Montreal probably...i was too little to remember much but I do remember the Dragon. I really thought that it was something special. I was sort of in awe as I watched this long dragon swoop through the streets in all it's colorful glory. I still see it. Come to find out later on in life that I was born in the year of the Dragon. It's the only sign that is of a mythical beast...kind of strange.

The Dog;

* Personality Profile: Loyal, down-to-earth and intuitive. Under
the Dog's seemingly unemotional exterior beats a puppy's tender
heart. You work well with others, but you yearn to be loved for
who you are--not for what you can do for people.

* Points of Pride: Suspicious of theatrics and sure things, Dogs
see below the surface and will not desert their friends even if
they fall on hard times.

* Weak Side: You're the worrier of the zodiac. You can be
intolerant and critical of those who don't share your integrity
and intensity.
* Love Match: Horse, Tiger or Rabbit.

Mary,
Not around here - at least outside of "the big city". We have one Chinese restaurant (China King) that's run by Koreans. The colors are beautiful! Would like to see that sometime.

Mary, there is a big festival held at Broome (north west Western Australia) every year but not at Chinese New Year. Broome was founded on the pearling industry and had a large influx of chinese to work in that industry. Broom is still mainly a pearling town with large pearl farms in the ocean, also it has become a tourist destination, particularly during the winter.

Your photos are magic. Like Wendy, I assumed that some of the "costumes" were made from flowers. Please post more photos after your next visit.

Thanks Wendy, Jodi, Nancy, Carol and Karen. I met a very dear friend from California at the Bellagio last Friday - she was here to celebrate her birthday. I sent her this birthday card I made from the pictures I took.

Wow that's a really nice card ! She'll love it I'm sure. Are you printing and sending or emailing ? It's always so much easier to email cards but I can't help but think that a printed and snail mailed card would be so much better. I need to start being so much better that way.

Hi Jodi :) I mail all my cards - old habits die hard and I think people still appreciate them. I also inclosed several prints of other pictures that I took so she will have some to show her family. btw she was using a point and shoot film camera so she didn't take as many pictures as I did.

Mary those are great. I love Las Vegas mainly because I got married there. Second time around. To make a long story short, Mike and I were on a business trip and decided to get married after gambling at the Luxor and other places. Another co-worker won about 4000.00 dollars so he decided to rent a limo. When we got in it there were other co-workers that decided to join in on the big event. So much for trying to keep it quiet. Well my husband is an only child and is 12 years younger so his parents were kind of upset to say the least. They are over it now. Get along really well with them. Well that is it in a nutshell. My adventure story straight from the strip!!!!

Mary, love the card and the font really fits in well with the theme - some times it is hard to find exactly the right font isn't it?

Las Vegas has one of the largest Asian populations out side of their homeland.

Jodi, you might want to look at the dragon in my gallery. It is made entirely of flowers and natural material. It is a portion of a float in the Floral parade held in Portland each year, It is the second largest parade of that type. If you would like I can display the whole float for you.

Mary, the Bellagio should be a reqular photo experience for you as it is exquisite all year long, I am sure you aware of that after lliving here for a year +. Try thirty eight years!

Lyn, your gallery is marvellous. The dragon is wonderful and the work that must have gone into making it . . . wow. I love the cactus flowers too.
