View Full Version : PSE3 - Import stopped working

I've been using PSE3 for about a week now. It was working fine. Today I started getting errors whenever I try to import, from any source:
I get a popup window: The ODBC data source reported the following error: (internal error: data not found)
The photos do not get imported. I've tried restarting PSE3, tried as a different user. Don't believe I've installed anything new on my system since the last time I did a successful import.
Any ideas?

I now see that I get this same ODBC error when it tries to transfer an image back from the Editor into the Organizer...

When strange things happen in Photoshop one of the first things to try is deleting the prefs file:
To do that close down Elements then click on the start up icon and quickly hold down the Control, Alt and Shift keys (If you are a Mac user Apple, Alt and Shift). Continue to hold down all three keys until you get a screen asking if you want to delete Settings ... just say Yes.
You do have to be quick to do it ... so if the box doesn't pop up then just try again.
Let us know if it works http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks for the tip Wenday, that worked -- though I didn't do it exactly the way you suggested. I just went into \Documents and Settings\....\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\3.0\Organizer and renamed the psa.prf file.

How do you rename the psa/prf file? And what do you rename it?

Hi Randy ...
Unless "jgs" has the system set to send an email when they get an pm ... or checks into the forum on a regular basis then they may not get the message at all.
I suspect that renaming the file is just in order to get Elements to generate another one and if that if the case then it doesn't matter what it is renamed but I really would like a Windows user to check it out ... hopefully Mike will be back this evening and pick up the thread :)

Just right click on the file and choose "Rename" then rename it from psa.prf to anything you choose that PSE won't recognise it and therefore create a new file when it starts up. I usually add "_old" (so ot would be psa.prf_old).
But... the psa isn't the only Preferences file, so I'd recommend using the Ctrl-Alt-Shift method..;)

I'll give it a whirl - I tried the control/alt/shift with no success. Keep your fingers crossed...

Sue,
If Ctrl-Alt-Shift didn't work then renaming the Prefs file is unlikely to either... it does the same thing.
When you tried Ctrl-Alt-Shift, did you get the window up asking you whether you want to delete the settings?
What problem are you having?

I'm a new member and have been having the same problem. However, when I press Ctrl, Alt, Shift I get an Open Catalogue box, rather than one asking if I want to delete settings. I've tried several times. Any ideas as to how I can make this work?

Hi ...
... and welcome to the forum :)
You need to open up Elements in the Editor mode to get this one to work ... do let us know how you go on with it ...

Thanks. I opened up in Editor and got the delete Settings box and clicked Yes, but it hasn't made any difference. When I have edited a photo and saved it, the edited copy doesn't import. As I do a lot of editing this is a major nuisance!! Any more ideas??
