Wendy,
Hope you had a good evening... :)
I was playing around with a plug in and decided to send one of the results in. Nothing special but it has got me away...
Entry number 2 is well underway

Wendy, I don't know what it is either. But in certain parts of the US, it would certainly qualify as a 'Phat Ride'...

I'm not that happy with my second entry as the effect I was trying to create doesn't show up enough. :?
What I was trying to create was a fade from colour to black & white. I used a layer mask and black to white gradient. The black and white version of the photo has the "Dreamy Photo" plug-in applied to it...
Any thoughts on how to improve it would be appreciated... :)

Mike,
I assume that you used two layers ... one colour and the other with the filter applied.
Did you desaturate the filter layer ... as it seems to have a pink caste?
Wendy
MikeH
February 5th, 2005, 04:13 PM
Wendy,
Yes I used two layers - the original colour image and a black & white layer which has the cloning, extra images and the plug-in applied. The mask is on the top (colour) layer.
I think the pink cast is the cause of the problem - there's something not quite right about the image...
The pink cast came from the Plug In which I applied to the black and white layer. I'll desaturate this layer and see what happens. Also, I may play around with the plug in settings to remove the pink cast.
Mind you when I view the black & white layer with the plug in applied on it's own, everything looks ok.
Thanks for your comments Wendy. :)

Mike,
Try it without using the plug in ... if you do want some blur use gaussiam blur instead and see if that works ...
Wendy

February 5th, 2005, 04:42 PM
Wendy,
The plug in has a default setting of 25% red tint, hence the pink cast...
OK, here are three images.
1. No plug in or blurr.
2. Plug in with no tint.
3. Gaussian blurr

They all look better than the one I submitted... I think I prefer the image without the plug in or blurr.

Mike,
I agree ... 1st choice no plug in or blur, 2nd choice blur ... not keen on plug in at all.
Just email Grant, send him your new one and ask him to replace it.
I like the way you have dealt with the window. It looks really good!

Wendy,
OK it's in with Grant :D
I have also removed the poster from the door.
This was my original idea... but as I said the black & white layer on it's own actually looks quite good with the plug in. It's the combination that did it.
As they say "Too many clicks spoil the blend"
Thanks for your help as ever :D

Push in the clutch ... engage the gears ... slowly let out the clutch while adding a bit of pressure on the gas peddle and I am sure you will make progress.

I have been told that if you buy a car by parts instead of a whole car it will cost 5 times as much. So just think of your wonderful image the parts may be more than the whole.
Good Luck

Hi Mike,
It was taken at Atherstone in North Warwickshire. They had a war weekend last summer ... all sorts of events, jazz bands, old cars etc. It was brilliant and I took loads of photos ... several have been used in the challenge!.

Well after a couple of pretty awful days due to having to re-install the Operating System I am finally up and running again.
Two challenge entries done and now sent to Grant ... so I will go and check out what others have done. I don't like to do that until I have finished mine ....

Wendy,
Atherstone is one of those places I have driven past on many a journey on the A5 but never actually been to. I had an office at Junction 10 of the M42 for a while...
Looks nice with cobbled streets... :)

It was human error ...... my error for letting my husband use Norton defrag
Wendy,
Norton has been responsible for two re-formats, including a disastrous crash before Xmas. The timing was excellent - between loading 75 images of Tenerife (including the summit of Teidi), removing them from the camera and (yes you guessed it) backing them up to cd. :x
I've dumped everything by Symantec from my system...

So what you are saying is that they are not user friendly!.

Wendy
February 6th, 2005, 06:17 PM
Mike,
What a time for it to happen before you had had a chance to put them on CD :( .. we have never had any problems with Norton up to today.
Thankfully a reinstall on the Mac leaves everything in place ... including bookmarks, prefs, emails ... even fonts I had downloaded and installed were fine. My main problems were to do with losing Mac fonts from previous system ... and two of them had to be the two fonts I use the most.
We eventually found them and they are now in place ... that just left some tidying up to do.
Hopefully its all sorted now ...

Wendy,
The worst part about losing the pictures was those of Teide... The Spanish government restrict the amount of people who can visit the very summit. We had to apply in person to the local Government in Tenerife for a permit.
So these pictures aren't something we can replace too easily, even if we go to Tenerife again.
Now I keep multiple copies of everything... What a way to learn though.
