New Years Fun and Challenge

Well, it's time to step up for the Baby Picture Challenge. Your mission is to select a photo from your youth, let's say 10 years old or younger, and select a recent photo, say within the last 12 months. Edit the photos to be no larger than 300 pixels on the longest dimension. Save as gif or jpg.

We'll agree to a deadline by which photos must be submitted and I will post all submissions on a website at which you can match the baby picture to the recent picture.

Let's get started. Let's establish a few deadlines and rules. Share your opinions here and I'll consolidate the results. You've got until Sunday to get me your feedback, we'll publish rules Monday and get started. Fair?

My questions:

How long do we want to give people to submit photos?
How long to vote?
How many times can someone vote?
Do we want a prize?
No nudity! That's for you Wendy, I've seen some of your work...
Any other thoughts?My goal is to mix the pictures randomly and allow you to match numbered baby pictures to lettered adult pictures. I'll need a week or so to put a prototype together and I plan to do that during the submition window.

Yes, the idea is you WILL NOT POST your pictures here or make them available to me here. I'll post an email address to which you can submit them OR arrange for you to send me a link to the picture on the web. Actually, I'd prefer you sending me pictures.

I'll then jumble the images in a random manner and make them available on a web site. I plan to use HTML forms to allow for posting our "votes."

I don't know what you mean about the 300 pixels part though. (See what I mean by new?)

Once you have a picture in elements just have a look at the image size.
Just make sure pixels are selected as the unit.

Just go to Image>Resize>Image size ..don't change anything .. just look.:)

It will more than likely be too big. Your best bet is probably to use "save for web" in the file menu. Just make you longest side to 300 pixels and the rest is pretty much done. Just make sure to hit apply after changing the size (I forgot a few times and couldn't figure out why my pictures didn't shrink)

I don't have any baby pictures of myself. My birth parents were from another galaxy...not so far away but I never see them. I wouldn't even know if they had any baby pictures of me. I doubt it. I was 'too' human for their liking...I know I told ya this story before...they dropped me off in a backyard and just left me there...about 41 years ago.

Can I use someone else's baby pic ??

The doctor had to ask the nurse which end to spank for the first cry. Ever since I've had a complex. Nuts, I just gave you all a clue how to pick my pics out of the line up. Oh well.

You as a child or infant. Something early enough in your lifetime that matching it with your current picture will be difficult. Maximum dimension is 300 pixels.
You today or recently. Again maximum dimension is 300 pixels.
All submissions should go to brice_wolford@hotmail.com.
Next Sunday or Monday I will publish a link where you can find the pictures and play the match game. That deadline will depend on when I have the link up and the pictures posted. Honestly, it may depend on my travel schedule this week and next weekend.
You will then have 1 week from that time to submit your guesses. Multiple votes are allowed, but only your most recent guesses will be counted in your final tally.
Winner gets to travel to Florida at their expense and take a picture of PET headquarters.Any questions?

File names. Something short. I'll associate them with you and I'll come up with my own naming convention to hide any and all association. Why not, for now, just name them after your forum name and an extension like bwolfordbaby.jpg and bwolfordnow.jpg or something incredibly clever like that. When I post them, they will have different names...

Make sure you put something in the subject to let me know it has to do with the Fun Challenge. Make sure your Forum nickname is in the email so I know FDellkeif@aol.com goes with BobW on the forums. If your email had viagra, propecia, cialis or something like that in it, I'm afraid it will come as SPAM and may be missed unless you call me attention to it with a subject that the calls my attention to the forum and NOT mention my "short comings."

Re the prize: It includes any and everything that you want on your self funded all expense paid trip. Airplane food not included. First class optional. Actually spotting anyone from the PET group is based on pure luck.

The pictures will have something like Baby A or Child A and the current shot will be listed by Forum name BWOLFORD, NMARTI, etc. So you'll be matching the baby with the forum name. Not as complex as it sounds. When you see it it, hopefully will be obivous.

The entries are up. I posted a simple form for you to fill out. In the left column are all the current pictures. The right column is a table of baby pictures with code numbers assigned using a secretive process using a monkey and masking tape. No questions please.

Just go to www.thewolfords.com/Challenge (http://www.thewolfords.com/Challenge) and fill in the form. Don't forget to put your name in at the bottom and hit the submit button.

If you find any problems with the web site, it's the monkey's fault. Multiple entries are welcome, but only your last entry counts in the final tally. Hints will be provided based on results sent to me.

Well my score sounds good but considering how many it's out of!! I sucked!! Failed! Where's the crying smiley??? My method was a to try and use the eyes when available (and darn you black and white photo people!!) My theory was blue eyes would be lighter. I also tried to look at clothes styles for some of the older people. The one of the baby sitting in the window scared me. :D I need to know who to feel sorry for. It might have been easier if they were printed out to match them up rather than scrolling. Definately tough!! Too many entries. :eek:

I just figured out you can print them. Click on the slider for the now pictures and it will print that set, then click on the slider for the baby pictures and it will print them. Boy this is hard - the more I look - the more confusing it gets!

I even got down and dirty and studied the source code for clues but Brice has anticipated that one :D . Nancy, our first second try person actually lowered her score in the second try. This could be maddening.

Almost everyone is getting Tony correct. Gary is a close second.

There are more than eye, eyebrow, clothes, and age of picture clues in the pictures. Some of them are subtle, but when you see them, you'll think "Why didn't I see the clue?" OK, I wanted to hold off on hints, but that's a hint.

For those of you feeling a little challenged, the average correct rate is 4.3.

Some time in the next day or two I'll tell you which answers are correct for each of you. For example Mike you got X, Y, and Z correct.

I'm struggling with tellying you which ones you got right without giving away answers here. If you record your answers for the 19 tries I'll tell you which positions you have right by name. For example, we can see Carol guessed her own picture (good guess) and those of Gary, Kerri, and Mike.

The names one the left correspond to the first frame on the web site and the names along the top are the names of people who guessed.

Of course, this helps if you remember/wrote down your answers... If not, oops.

Ok, I find this funny. Very funny! Several people have guessed 3 out of the 4 men correct, but almost no one has guessed poor Tony. Poor, poor Tony!
