Nancy,
You little devil!!!--I keep trying to match your eyes to one of the babies!!!
Well, I can't play anymore till Sun or Mon cause we are going out of town as soon as I get home---so I hope I keep the lead til then. I can't wait to pay my way bi-coastal!!!! And all that great airplane food---I just love little tiny snacks!!! & really small bottles of water!!!!:D
Good luck all---I guess I was an easy one!
NMarti
January 20th, 2006, 07:30 PM
Sherry - actually I got you wrong the first 2 guesses because my daughter kept saying ..... oops - can't say that yet. Brice has to give out clues. My eyes look so obvious to me...:D

January 20th, 2006, 07:56 PM
Nancy,
You'll have to tell what she said when this is over & done with!!!
Pauline
January 20th, 2006, 08:09 PM
Nancy I thought your eyes were so obvious too and picked the same number twice and got it wrong. Third attempt and wrong again. Tony are you a girl?? :( I only got an extra 3 right!

Pauline,
Hehehe!!! I can't say anything or I'll give a clue!!!!:D
NMarti
January 20th, 2006, 09:54 PM
Pauline,
Tony already gave a clue and so did Sherry - sort of..... I picked up only after putting the two together.;)
Don't feel bad Pauline - there are two there that I would pick for me if I didn't know better. Boy this can drive you crazy.
Hey Brice - just noticed - did you just graduate to year 2 of 35?
CarolLHB
January 20th, 2006, 11:08 PM
Just tried again-#2 this is so hard-all my guesses changed-we'll see. If I do worse, I'm done!:D
NMarti
January 20th, 2006, 11:13 PM
Carol,
Only 2 tries? I'm at 4 already. But then I didn't count my second because it was so miserable that I went down to 2 right - me and Mike. Took me 3 tries to find you.
CarolLHB
January 20th, 2006, 11:48 PM
Well, it is the weekend-I guess I'll keep trying-I was 10 minutes late to work when I tried the first time!:D

Yes I graduated to year 2. Purely a social advancement, barely made it by based on academics... So sad...
Our clues so far:
A person's actions speak volumes about who they are
Tony, I wouldn't take this sitting down.
Smiles help brighten your day... ooo an extra clue.
New-Wendy sits in a position to become an enlightened elder
New-Eva you are a bedeviling little witch and I mean that in a good way.
New-Jodi is riding her first and only answer to victory
New-Robyn, just a couple of more letters and I'd get your name based on what I see in your picture.
New-Linda, if I thought about it your picture would give it away in a snap.
New-This time I included the average of all of the answers. These should help you figure out the direction to error for your answers for those that are almost all right and where not to lean for those that are all wrong... Or not, they are just numbers. That should help you, or not... They are clues for some of the most difficult pictures in the list. also #9 was given to confound you... Oh well.

Jodi, you must make at least more than one attempt!! I can't believe you didn't get more right! What happened to the artist in you? The eyes are one of the biggest clues I found. At least it helped pick out a lot of the pretty blue ones. You can't give up this easy.

Eva, Did you say 'slump' ? Gosh, that has been my middle name for over a year now. I need change. Freekin' Wacom had me drooling this morning...I got a DVD in the mail ' Digital Innovator series ' (freebie gift from Wacom) the host was using a Wacom Cintique to show us his talent....so cool !!! You have to see it to believe it....Anyways, the one I want is $3000.00 !!   ...Of course that is just a drop in the bucket to Graphic Artists who are actually employed in Real World 3D Animation.

Wendy,
I know what you mean! I was moderately pleased with my results until I saw that I didn't guess myself (pressed wrong button I guess) so when I went to correct that I got all mixed up with what I had done previously and so my latest submission will probably be worse than the last one.

I didn't use a spreadsheet, I printed the baby pictures and wrote my guesses next to them. When one was wrong - I crossed it off and then knew not to guess them again but still knew who all I had guessed in the past. I'm down to six and feel pretty confident I know 3 for sure. We'll see when the next tally comes up. I'm glad it's almost done though.

Here are the latest results... Some of you changed answers that were right...
KTNoon is almost there...
http://www.thewolfords.com/Challenge/answer-key.gif
Instead of a new hint, I'll explain some of my old hints... This may make it far too easy...
A person's actions speak volumes about who they are. This means what they are doing in the baby and new pictures might be a clue to the match. Or the baby picture action may be a clue to their names.
Tony, I wouldn't take this sitting down. If Tony isn't sitting down he could only be doing one of 2 other things...
Smiles help brighten your day... ooo an extra clue. Some of the smiles are dead give aways... or lack thereof.
New-Wendy sits in a position to become an enlightened elder. Enlightened = educated = smart = bright = you get the idea. Her placement might also be a clue to her name.
New-Eva you are a bedeviling little witch and I mean that in a good way. Devils have pointy ears. Eva posed as a witch in her adult picture.
New-Jodi is riding her first and only answer to victory. What are the babies riding?
New-Robyn, just a couple of more letters and I'd get your name based on what I see in your picture. Play with the letters in Robyn and think phonetically.
New-Linda, if I thought about it your picture would give it away in a snap. Perhaps this little cookie is just an American goody. I don't know if our European or Canadian friends enjoy this treat.
New-This time I included the average of all of the answers. These should help you figure out the direction to error for your answers for those that are almost all right and where not to lean for those that are all wrong... Or not, they are just numbers. You really have to be looking at the counts over time to see the trend as correct answers appear. For example almost all of the guesses for Mike are correct and his average number is 67. So you know it can't be low or really high. It must be near 67. Wendy's number has been inching up as more correct answers come in for hers... That might indicate that Wendy's number is higher or it could indicate that more incorrect answers are getting higher... Don't you just hate numbers?Brice

Well, we have a winner. KT came in about 2:16 ahead of Linda with a complete list of correct answers. I will now share the answer key with your and explain my idiotic clues :D KT, I've sent you my Hooter's Halloween costume full body picture. No vomiting please. Linda, I'll share it with you if you'd like to see it. Again, no vomiting.
First the clues.
A person's actions speak volumes about who they are. This means what they are doing in the baby and new pictures might be a clue to the match. Or the baby picture action may be a clue to their names. A baby driving could be an adult driving. Bill drove in both, for example. Wendy was sitting in a Window. Or Winder as we call it in the south.
Tony, I wouldn't take this sitting down. If Tony isn't sitting down he could only be doing one of 2 other things... He was either laying down or standing up. In this case he posted a beautifully colored picture of himself laying down. So beautiful it looked like a little lass.
Smiles help brighten your day... ooo an extra clue. Some of the smiles are dead give aways... or lack thereof. Just like it says, some smiles were dead give aways. Some folks weren't smiling and their lack of smiles gave you clues. That means if they weren't smiling as an adult, they may not have smiled in the baby picture.
New-Wendy sits in a position to become an enlightened elder. Enlightened = educated = smart = bright = you get the idea. Her placement might also be a clue to her name. Wendy sitting in a window would put her in a position to be in "bright" light or become enlightened. I was rather pleased to see Wendy in such a provocative pose. Sitting in a window with no shirt on... I kept looking for the red light in the window. Perhaps I went to far with that... No offense Wendy.
New-Eva you are a bedeviling little witch and I mean that in a good way. Devils have pointy ears. Eva posed as a witch in her adult picture. Eva was dressed in a cape. She was holding a baloon or something as a child that looked like it had little devil ears.
New-Jodi is riding her first and only answer to victory. What are the babies riding? Jodi was sitting on one of 2 doberman pincher dogs.
New-Robyn, just a couple of more letters and I'd get your name based on what I see in your picture. Play with the letters in Robyn and think phonetically. Robyn = Rybon = Ribbon = Robyn had a ribbon in her hair in the baby picture. See, I told you these weren't the best clues.
New-Linda, if I thought about it your picture would give it away in a snap. Perhaps this little cookie is just an American goody. I don't know if our European or Canadian friends enjoy this treat. Ginger cookies are sometimes called Ginger Snaps.
Don't you just hate numbers? Completely useless until more right answers came in. It does point you away from some wrong answers, but doesn't really point you at right answers. So here you are in all of your glory:

Wow - those were hard! I think Shane's picture threw me the most.
Brice - your clues helped me get Wendy, Bob, Eva, and Linda but I already had Jodi. Great job - lots of fun!
Mary - I would have picked your picture for me if I didn't know better. I have a very similar picture. The one I used is the youngest my mom has of me. (I was the 4th child so pictures didn't happen) It's actually a proof. She couldn't afford the prints so all she got was the free proof and it has adopted a lovely sepia tone over time. It's of both me and my younger brother but I cropped him off.
Don't feel bad Tony - my mom dressed my brothers in pink too. :p

How do we top this? Match you to a picture of your children? Or spouse? Or Pet? Or House? Or...
It was fun. I'm going to work on a composite of all of our pictures. I have to be home and using my tablet to do it and I publish from a different computer...
Thank you all so much for playing along or tagging along as the case may be. You are such lovely people. It's nice to say I hang with you! Some day we'll have to have a PET convention and meet in some nice city that represents the average geological difference from all of our locations so we all have to travel equal distances. Tony or Gary can you work on calculating the geographical center of the PET universe?

I was trying to think of more things to do like this. It would be hard to do the match the pet or kid to the family, because we've seen a lot of our kids/pets. The house is an idea I hadn't thought of. We could also do a thing where we each submit an obscure fact or two about ourselves and people try to match them (like Jodi is a secret chocolate eater!) Another idea would be to each do a collage or something and then try to match the creator with the collage. (And if we were still doing reputation points, I would give a 100 to anyone who said my work was one of the pros!:))

Mary - I would have picked your picture for me if I didn't know better. I have a very similar picture.
Diana -- I had a similar feeling about your picture as Nancy did about Mary's. In other words, I have pictures of me that could be a twin of your little girl picture, except that my hair wasn't straight -- it was always kind of wavy. But the face -- wow  -- it looks so much like some of my own baby pix. Maybe we were separated at birth ;)

Grizzly Adams ran for two seasons (1977-1978), and was very loosely based on the life of James Adams, a 19th century pioneer. In the tv show he talks to the animals (who evidently understand and respond to spoken English) and hangs out with a grizzly named Ben

Well Wendy,
He was growing a beard for a small role in a play at the U where he's a theatre instructor. The arch was just opening and he went out to talk about internships for his students. His interviewer (former student of his) said they could use an older guy to play a mountain man. He said ok and needed to find a character and a story to work around. After researching he found an old mountain man named Joe Meek and adopted him as the model for his character but choosing to use the name Crazy Meek (kind of a play on words)
So there's the background.
He's such a flamboyant guy he soon became the "icon" for the archway and gets into the publicity and such. Only works during the summer when he's not teaching but has been requested for a wedding reception and other special events. He's been asked to MC when the Nebraska state quarter is unvieled. It's kind of fun does bring in some play money but I could sure live without that beard the rest of the time. :)

January 27th, 2006, 07:08 PM
So true Sherry. Maybe we could have a showing of our wedding pictures. Or our favorite outfits from the 70's/80's? That could get to be a hoot. Remember the "big hair" days?

If we do use a Mother's Day theme be sure to post the exact date of Mother's Day. In Australia it is May 14th (I think, in May anyway) - I know the UK has a different date.
Wendy
January 28th, 2006, 07:00 AM
Hi ...
Mothers Day in the UK is the church festival of Mothering Sunday which is the 4th Sunday in Lent. Traditionally it is the day when servants were given a day off to visit their mothers ... but it goes back much further in time than that. It dates back to when it was considered important that each year people went back to their "Mother Church" (the main church in the area).
This year it is Sunday 4th March ... :)

TonyW
January 28th, 2006, 08:06 AM
That is a good idea Nancy (even if it does show a bit of bias - what's wrong with fathers :D ). There are some other Mothers day dates - December 8th in Spain and last Sunday in May in France.
Another wild thought for a future challenge (if no one's suggested it yet - haven't read all the posts) would be a current self-picture but with disguising allowed - dress, wigs, make-up, photoshopping whatever you want. Best disguise (eg last one guessed) wins :)
Tony
NMarti
January 28th, 2006, 08:39 AM
Great idea Tony on the disguise. I had thought of Father's day but it isn't until June and that's too far away so just went with Mother's day.
We could do it just about any time actually as just a salute to parents. If we do the disguise, perhaps April Fools Day would be fitting. ;)
Would we sent Brice a layered photo so he could peel away our disguise as clues?
TonyW
January 28th, 2006, 09:24 AM
Maybe we should let Brice play too. One of us could sit out, collect the pics and email them to Brice so he doesn't know who's who.
Then of course we could all have a go at disguising Brice and see if he recognizes himself
