I use elements alot for collages and I was wondering how to get the effect of a oval mat around the photo?

Kinda like the attachement.

I've been getting better and better at the collages but I love this look. And to kill two birds with one stone I'll ask my other question if I wanted the outside of the oval a solid color how do I do that?

Thank you all so much!!!

Hi ..

Create a layer above your image Layer>New>Layer
Set your foreground colour to the colour you want the Oval to be
Select the Elliptical Marquee and make a selection for your Oval
Then do Edit>Fill Selection.

That makes an oval for you.

If you want a frame like the one in the image then do this:

Create a layer above your image Layer>New>Layer
Set your foreground colour to the colour you want the Framing to be
Select the Elliptical Marquee and make a selection for the inside Oval
Then do Select>Inverse
Then Edit>Fill Selection.

... and there you have your frame.

If you want a stroke around the Oval Frame:

First create your frame
Then set your foreground colour to the colour you want the stroke to be
Go to the Layers Palette and Control Click (Mac: Command Click) on the "Frame" Layer to regain the selection.
Next do Select>Inverse
Then Edit>Stroke Selection ... choose your stroke size and click OK

... and there you have a stroke around the frame.

It will be more than worth it to get the magazine because with it you get access to so much more. You will be able to access all the tutorials and past magazines. It is in my humble opinion, the best value for learning about Photoshop Elements. For scrapbooking you should get Linda Sattgast's tutorials they are well worth the money.

Between this place and hers you can't go wrong and will have a plethora of info at your fingertips.
