View Full Version : Audio Issues in Elements 6.0 Slideshow

In the process of making a slideshow with music. I am able to add all my music just fine. However, at points during the slideshow the slideshow's audio volume lowers for only 6-8 seconds then comes back to the normal volume. I have put different slides in that position, but still the same thing happens. This also happens to other songs in this slideshow. Again only for a 6-8 seconds then comes right back. I have created several slideshows with this version and this is the first issue I have ever had with the audio. Any ideas?

Have you pin pointed what is difference between the earlier slideshows and this one
a. source and format of music
b. size of the slideshow
c. computer resources
d. need for updated computer drivers
e. placement of the music in the music bar
f. audio preference to play to last slide in Slide Show Editor Preferences dialog
How are you going to output this slideshow? Have you continued on to the output to determine if this music lapses that you hear are in the end product also?
What happens if you start over with a new project and same slideshow components?

The slideshows are the same as I have done in the past. The source and format of the music are ripped mp3s from my cd collection. The slideshow is approximately 25 minutes. I am creating the slideshow on the same computer as I have done the prior slideshows. I will update drivers here soon to see if that helps. The music is placed on the music bar.
I outputted the slideshow to a wmv file to see if that fixed the problem. The wmv still has the audio lapses. I then burned to DVD and had no audio at all on the DVD.
Today I started a new project with the same components. Same thing is happening. At the same point of the slideshow the audio dips low and them comes back. I have played all the mp3's in windows media with no lapses in the volume.
THanks,

The first thing that I would like you to do is replace the audio that you now have with sample music from the program and then tell me if you have the same problem as with your ripped music with the .wmv and the DVD-VIDEO.
To get to the Photoshop Elements 6 sample music (.mp3) files, navigate:
Local Drive C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Music.
How are you burning to DVD? Do you mean burning your Photoshop Elements 6 Slideshow Editor slideshow to a DVD-VIDEO format on a DVD disc with Premiere Elements 4 or other? Do check out updates for the audio drivers.
Let us see how you do with the above. I will be watching for your progress.

I plugged in sample music as well as other music I have stored on my computer. Both mp3 as well as wma files. Both seem to have the same problem at the same location in the slideshow.
When I burned the earlier DVD, I went through the Premiere Elements 4 program.
I did check for the latest updates via the help menu. If this isnt the way to check for the latest drivers, let me know.
Thanks

1. If you want to analyze further within the PSE slideshow editor ---
Since you say it happens at the same point in the slideshow even with the PSE sample music files and different photos as the slides.
What transition (if any) is active at this point in time? Any consistency between type of transition and this problem? Any pan/zoom active?
Are you changing from one music file to another at this time? I have read multiple problems of drop outs during the switching from one music file to the next.
2. Since you have Premiere Elements 4, I suggest that you consider adding the audio using Premiere Elements. Audio support is much better in Premiere Elements.

The user has claimed that going the Premiere Elements 4 route from Photoshop Elements 6 to Premiere Elements 4 to DVD-VIDEO results in no sound at all for the DVD-VIDEO. First I wanted to rule in or out the source of the music as the cause of the problem on the Photoshop Elements 6 side. Now we have just learned that the problem appears to persist even when using Photoshop Elements 6 sample music files.
I had asked about audio drive update. But, I think that niu_pooh misunderstood my request and went looking for updates in Photoshop Elements 6.

a. The audio driver update to which I was referring was at the computer level, not Photoshop Elements 6. For example,
Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager/"Sound,video and game controllers"/in my case "Realtek AC'97 Audio/Drives Tab with its Update Driver and Roll Back Driver if you do not like the Update.
b. Please evaluate the suggestions that BarbO offered, but, if the problem is not resolved, I would like you to bring your Photoshop Elements 6 slideshow (WITHOUT audio) into Premiere Elements 4. With Premiere Elements 4 Get Media/Files and Folders import your audio clip, place it on the Timeline, and see
(1) if you get any audio play back
(2) if you do get audio play back, is it OK or same old problem
(3) if the video and audio quality is good on the DVD-VIDEO export.
I will be watching for your progress.

ATR,
by "consider adding the audio using Premiere Elements" I meant add the audio in Premiere Elements instead of Photoshop Elements slide show editor as you describe
"With Premiere Elements 4 Get Media/Files and Folders import your audio clip, place it on the Timeline,"
sorry if that was not clear

You may have missed the following in my previous post...

I think that we are on the same wave length here, but...To make it perfectly clear, now that I know that the Adobe sample music does not change the issue in Photoshop Elements 6, I wanted to pursue the music (Adobe sample as well as original user music) when it was introduced into the slideshow on the Premiere Elements 4 side. I was especially concerned about the earlier report that there was NO sound at all after Photoshop Elements 6 slideshow with music was introduced into Premiere Elements for burn to disc.
The results from the above should yield some valuable troubleshooting information.

ATR,
NO I did NOT miss your post. My reference was back to an earlier post of mine. However, the close timing of our posts might also mean that you did not see that earlier post of mine (timestamped October 29th 9:52 PM when I view it) when you did your post (timestamped October 29th 10:45 PM when I view it).
I think the significant point is that:
We are both making basically the same recommendation to try adding the audio in Premiere Elements because the Photoshop Elements slide show support for audio is limited and has been problematic for some people.

Agreed, that the Premiere Elements results will enable us to better interpret the audio issues encountered in Photoshop Elements. I am not all that sure that the problem is specific to or inherent in Photoshop Elements and its audio handling. But, the results will tell the story.
With the change in time tonight (Fall back), the post timing may yet be out of sync. To be continued....
