Hi Everyone,
I've been away from the forum for a bit. So, can I get some reviews on PSE 8 for the mac? I'm using PSE 6 right now. But, was thinking about buying 8? I do have Snow Leopard sitting on my desk, but didn't install it yet. Waiting till the problems are all worked out.
Thanks for any feedback.
Take care.

I have a 2 yr old MacBook Pro and upgraded from PSE 6 to 8. The improvement has been amazing. My copy of 6 crashed regularly for all the time I had it, despite many calls to support and looking to forums and the like for advice. PSE 8 is stable, easy to use, and everything I'd been working on under previous versions opens easily.
I'm really happy with the upgrade.

Hi, Sergio.
I just switched back to Leopard after 2 weeks with Snow Leopard.
There have been many problems with Snow Leopard, which may or may not pertain to you.
The most common complaint is that some fonts will no longer work because of a font conflict.
The most common are Helvetica, Helvetica Neue and Futura.
Apple has named their system fonts exactly same as the much used fonts.
This creates a conflict which prevents you from using these fonts.
This results in text overflow when you open old documents saved with these fonts.
Read through these posts and see whether you should upgrade.

If you do go ahead with Snow Leopard I suggest that you have a bootable backup of your HD with Leopard in case you wish to go back.
One user I communicated with took 44 hours to go back via Time Machine, It took me 47 minutes from my bootable External Firewire drive.
Think before you jump.
BTW: The installation of Snow Leopard itself went smooth with no problems.

Also, if you use a colorimeter there is a big problem with loading profiles, in that SL only understands a much truncated naming convention, so ignores most profiles created by spyder, i1D2, etc, on reboot. (This is supposedly going to be fixed in 10.6.2).

Thanks everyone. So, I think I'll go ahead and buy PSE 8, but skip installing Snow Leopard. Frank, thanks for reinforcing what I've heard from a few people on youtube. Man, I would bring Snow Leopard back if it was less than a month old. I've had it sitting on my desk for many weeks. Well, from the day it was released, lol. I'm so glad I waited to install it. This mac has been 100% problem free, so why set my self up for headaches!
No SOUP/Snow Leopard for me!!:D
I'm looking forward to trying PSE 8.
Frank, thanks for the links. You've always been a big help to me. Thank you.
Thank you all.

I'm sure that most of the bugs will get worked out eventually, same as with previous versions of OS X. For me, I uninstalled it mostly because I have hardware, like my flatbed scanner, that is never going to get updated drivers and leopard works just fine.

Same here! It will sit on my desk till I here all the bugs are worked out. I can wait.
The problem is I went to the Apple store and saw the new 27" imacs! WOW! Simply beautiful! Do i need a 27"? No, but it sure is hard to be a grown up. I'm trying very hard not to cave in, lol.
I'll get my PSE 8 and play with that for now.
Take care all.

I bought the new PSE 8 for my Mac and I am wondering if I need to uninstall PSE 6 before installing 8.
Thanks

Cheryl, since all PSEs are stand alone applications you can have them all on your computer at the same time.
The only drawback is the storage capacity they take.

Thank you so much, I think I'll uninstall it and put PSE 6 on hubby's IMAC.
Thanks again,

I am in the process of switching from PC to mac.
I am an expert PSE user. However I read up on the Mac version.
It sounds very complicated to import photos for editing.
Currently I am able to import photos on my PC into PSE directly from any file containing photos.
In reading up on the Mac it sounds like you have to import your photos from i photos or bridge. The mac way sounds labor intensive.
It said you need "Adobe Bridge" to act as an intermediary between PSE and iPhoto. Why? I read in "using PSE you must go to File>Browse with Bridge>Pictures>iPhoto>click image>edit (be sure PSE is listed as the editor of choice in iPhoto Preferences). You will now have the image in your project bin. "
Why so complicated?
Is this so? or can you import photos directly from events in iphoto?
I AM THINKING MAYBE i BETTER BUY A PC AND NOT THE NEW MAC
Thanks for any feedback.http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/images/icons/icon9.gif

Hi nanpera ...
... and welcome to the Village :)
I'm not quite sure where you got that path from .. its certainly not how I do it ??
OK ... First thing is that the Mac Version of Elements ships with Bridge and not the Organiser. So its up to you how you organise your images ... you have lots of options, some of those are:
Use iPhoto alone
Use Bridge alone
Use a combination of the two
Use another Organiser (for example picasa)
Or you can use any combination of those ...
An easy way of doing it is to use iPhoto ... set iPhoto prefs to open the image in Elements, Edit the image in Elements then save the image to a desktop folder. Once you have edited all your images then import the edited images into iPhoto.
Wendy
PS ... What sort of Mac have you ordered ??

You don't don't need to use any program to organize your images if you don't want to. You can just use file>open in PSE, use cover flow view in a Finder window then right click and choose PSE as the opening program, etc. There are lots of ways. The question is first, whether or not you want an asset management program like organizer. Bridge is just a browser that shows you the contents of any folder you point it to. You can use it or not as you please. Same with iphoto, which I don't care for, myself, and hardly ever use.

For me I create files of photos. Store and save that way - no iPhoto, no Bridge, nothing. I print out reference photos (really small size) on sheet of paper. I store them on backup hard drives and also on DVDs. As an example - on the recent trip to my daughter's wedding in Maryland - I traveled from MN to Virginia stopping at Monticello, Shenandoah National Park, then the wedding, then Gettysburg, and finally Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Off the 4 compact flash cards I downloaded all photos then divided them up into files: Monticello, etc. For the wedding I broke that down into 9 separate files - Fri. morning, Fri, evening, before the wedding, the wedding, dinner, dance, etc. I'm sure it might be easier w/ iPhoto or one of the others, but having the reference sheet w/ all the photos on it (albeit small) I can look them up in my folder and find them rather quickly.
Sooooo - in the short of it - you don't have to use bridge, etc. - but it is wise to have some way to find the photos for later use....and this is what I came up with.
Good luck w/ everything.
