Hi.. When trying to open RAW photo from iphoto in elements 6 the error message (photoshop elements does not recognize this file type pops up).

I am using NEF from my Nikon. I went to iphoto>pref>advanced, and set it to open RAW in external editor. What am I doing wrong??

thanks
Eric

Hey Eric and Welcome to the Village,

Your not doing anything wrong. What you need to do is go to the Adobe Site and look to see which version of ACR thats Adobe Camera Raw plug-in will be the latest version that can be used by Elements 6.

The Raw Plug-In that comes with the program is not the latest and your camera is probably not supported by this version. First, you need to find what version is the latest that will work. The next thing you need to find is if your camera is supported by this version.

What camera are you using? I have the Nikon D80 and I did have this problem when I first started to use my Elements 5. I updated my ACR and all is well.

Hi Eric ...

How did you set set iPhoto to open in Raw ...

When you opened the prefs and choose an external editor what did you select ?? ... you didn't happen to choose the RAW plugin within Elements did you ??

You can view your photos in Elements by uploading from camera or card reader (quicker, no battery drain), then select Camera Raw plug in when in Edit mode.
You do need the latest version of Adobe Camera Raw and DNG supported by your version of Elements, an easy download...but be sure to remove your current ACR plug in from the Plug In/File Format folder before installing the new one.
