:confused:Hi,
Hope someone can help with this.
I have PSE6 & 7 on Windows XP operating system.
I have attempted to capture a shot from an AVI video using PSE7, but every time I press the capture button, the system locks and I have to reboot.
Using PSE6 I do not have this problem. I do not want to keep switching between the two programs.
Is there a fix?

Alan

I have done a few frame captures in PSE 7. I don't have PSE 6 installed in order to compare.

Since there are many different types of video codecs that can be in a .avi file, I suggest that you post what was the source of that AVI file and its codec if you know. Then if I have the same type of video, I will experiment on my system.

Alan,

I do have Photoshop Elements 6 and 7 installed on my Windows XP Pro SP3 Desktop computer and find no difference in the two versions path wise or otherwise to the File Menu/Import/Frame From Video route.

As has been asked, what type of .avi video do you have? If you do not know, you could download the free utility gspot and find its codec (compression types) and other properties info.

I do not suspect a missing codec at time, but rather perhaps a damaged preference. But, let us see.

Have you been successful in the past with obtaining freeze frames by this route in Photoshop Elements 7 and these failures are something new that happened suddenly? Or, has this feature never worked in Photoshop Elements 7?

How long have you had versions 6 and 7 on the same computer and are you running them one at a time (not the two opened at the same time)?
