Hi
I am new to PSE4 and am trying to remove the yellow cast from some indoor pictures. When I try using the "Remove color cast" tool and pick an area that should be white nothing seems to happen. Am I missing something? Does it happen instantly or take a while to change? Where does it preview?
(I know I could "try" to do this with other levels tools but would really like to see PSE4 do the things its supposed to)
Thanks
John

I'm guessing cuz I only have PE3. the remove CC tool seems to trip a lot of people up..(it's not intuitive). The problem is there is no preview, you actually have to click on the white/black/gray area while the initial dialogue box is open.
It almost looks more like an info box, and you think you should close it.
Hope I got it right:)

Hi John,
There are several methods of removing colour casts using PSE most of which require a degree of trial and error...
The Colour Cast Tool applies the change immediately and providing you have the "Preview" box checked you will see the effect on the image itself.
If you aren't seeing any change in the image, then either the photo doesn't have a cast or you haven't selected the right white, grey or black points.
Other ways of removing a colour cast include:
Add a Levels adjustment layer to find the white, grey and black points.
Add a Levels adjustment layer to add colour through a specific Channel (i.e. red, green or blue).
Use the Colour Variations command (Enhance > under Adjust Colour > Colour VariationWith the last two, you can add colour to remove a cast based on the Colour Wheel. So, to remove a yellow cast you add the colour opposite on the Colour Wheel, which is blue - blue absorbs yellow and visa versa.

John, to follow up on Mike's very comprehensive response, my favorite way to remove a color cast is:
Create a new Levels Adjustment Layer
In the Levels dialog, open the Red Channel and set the black and white sliders to the respective end points where the graph (histogram) starts to rise from zero.
Repeat for the Blue Channel
Repeat for the Green Channel
Open the RGB channel and adjust the middle slider for overall brightness.
Hit OK to close. It doesn't always work, but it's pretty good most of the time.

Hi John ..
I did a mini tut on the way Chuck is suggesting ... if you do wish to try out that method then the images I used to illustrate it may help you:

Thank you Gary, that was the problem!
