I have begun scanning the 1000's of slides from my dad. I am now on number 500.

I prefer to scan into and from the Editor, name the file as I wish and put them where I want, and do any fixes in Editor I wish before saving.
I have the Canon Canoscan 9950F.
I have both the organizer and the Editor open. Whenever I turn on the scanner the prompt in the Organizer for the scanner comes up and I click cancel, because I tried that and it puts it where it wants and names it what it wants and there is no viewing or editing until after the fact. The slides need to go into differnt folders and they are mixed up and I do not kwow where to put them until after I scan them.

My question is:confused: when I scan a set of 12 slides from the Editor, File-Import-Scanner, as the slides are scanned the screen blinks and has a general nervous breakdown:twisted:
It seems to hurt nothing, but I cannot stand to watch it. Is this normal? It does not do this if I let it scan from the Organizer.

Hi Sheila

I am using an Epson scanner (not that it matters that much..except it's not the same as yours). I don't seeem to have the problem you are having.
I have never scanned slides so I don't know what would happen.

What are you using for the scanning side? I am using my Epson software (from the Import menu in Elements.) I seem to have about 6 or 7 "import" options

Hi Sheila,

I also prefer scanning into Editor and use a Canon scanner - like Gary I don't have the same problem as you... In the Organizer Preferences I have left the scanner set as "Adobe Photoshop Elements". When I switch the scanner on, Organizer doesn't launch at all.

Let us know if this helps...

Gary,

Definitely as case of "what you don't know can't hurt you"...

I changed the scanner settings in the Organizer to Adobe Elements, and I tried both with the Organizer open and the Organizer closed.
It keeps trying to launch from the Organizer.

I can handle that by just telling it no, but I do not understand why the screen blinks the whole time it is scanning.

This scanner scans 12 slides at a time and does a beautiful job. I am scanning at 300dpi. As each one is being scanned the part of the screen with the scanner instructions blinks wildly, enough so you cannot look at the screen. ...it does not blink when I scan into Paint Shop Pro or the Organizer.
However I prefer to scan into and with Elements. Actually I continue to even with the madly blinking screen. I just go away from the computer until it is finished. Elements allows me to work with the pictures and name them and put them where I swish, the Organizer does not.
I keep looking through all the settings and wondering if there is a setting I am missing? I hope the blinking is OK to be happening.

Sheila,

So if you only have Editor only and go to File > Import and select your scanner, Organizer tries to launch..?

I checked that. I shut down my computer and only opened the Editor and scanned and the Organizer did not launch.
I talked to my son in law and he said he thinks my screen is just trying to refresh its self constantly while it is scanning and it will not hurt anything.
I must say it is very annoying.

Sheila,

So part of the problem is solved then..?
