Hi- I am wondering if anyone else has this issue. I have a Canon PowerShot SX110IS. When I plug into my MBP and import them into iPhoto all seems fine. But then when I open up PSE6 and import the photos I want to tinker with or use in a digital layout, the photos are huge in size (like 48") and the resolution is only 72 (I want 300). What do I need to do to correct this? I am guessing that since these photos are so big they are taking up lots of room on my hard drive which is filling up fast due to the birth of my first grandchild! I am not aware of any setting on my camera that I can change but maybe someone knows. Thanks! Judy

Hi ...
When it comes to images it is not the size in inches that is important its the number of pixels in the image and that will be the same wether its in Elements or iPhoto.
... the only time you need to worry about resolution is when you come to print out and then you just change the resolution using Image>Resize<Image size. All you do is make sure that you have resample images UNCHECKED and then change the resolution. Try that and you will see that as the resolution goes higher, the pixels just get squashed together closer and the size of the image in inches gets smaller.
Only time you ever really need to do this is when you want to print an image out :)

Ok-I am just a bit concerned that these large sized photos are using my hard drive space. I will make sure that I have resample images unchecked. Thanks Wendy! Judy

Hi Judy ...
The file size will be identical as there are the same number of pixels in the image ... when you do them at 300 pixels to the inch you simple squash the pixels together to give you more in an inch ... that way the physical size of the image in inches goes down ..
...but it still has the same number of pixels and the file size is still the same :)
Don't worry about it unless you want to print something out.
Wendy :)
