Just read it's going to be released the end of October. Cost is $99. There is a $20 rebate if you order during a certain time period. Amazon has it for $94.99 and free shipping. Not alot of details about the goodies but a little bit on Adobe's website. Just wanted to let you all know! Judy

I look forward to giving it a try. Do you know if it takes up much more hard drive space than PSE6? Judy

It's pretty close in size.

Yes, intel only and no support for rosetta, so all your plug-ins need to be intel, too.

Just got first mac last week. (PC graduate!)
Just dowloaded 6 days ago the PSE6 for mac trial download.
then suddenly the announcment of pse 8 coming in late october.
Which is best: don't buy the trial version of pse6, and download the trial of pse8 when available, then if still think it's the one for me, buy the pse 8? will the presence of pse6 trial/demo and then it's expiration interfere in this plan? I"m a worried long time PC users, and things like this would send Windows into a tizzy. Should I worry? What do you recommend i do?

Hi ...
... and welcome to the Village :)
I would wait for PSE8 ...
Then before you download PSE8 uninstall PSE6 using the uninstaller
Then just download PSE8 and decide if you like it :)

I hope all the people are reading the fine print about PSE 8 for Mac -
Namely:
INTEL PROCESSOR REQUIRED
Plug-ins will need to be intel compatible
Barbara - is there a list somewhere about what plug-ins will work? Open to Wendy or anyone else that might have a working copy.
Should be interesting to see how this transition unfolds.

Hi Bruce ...
What Plugins are interested in knowing about :)

Nothing in particular - just wondering if there is a "magic list" out there - or is it really too early for something like that.
If and when I get 8 - may have to keep 6 around for those that aren't intel associated.
~bruce.
ps. I'm still slowly migrating stuff from 6 on the old computer to the new one. Talk about speed bump - a mac pro quad core just smokes. Where before I would do a increase in size using Essentials 2 - I could go get a cup of coffee, read the paper and make it back to see it completing - on the new one - its almost instantaneous.

Hi Bruce ...
The Mac Pro Quad Core really does zoom along ... :) and it certainly cuts out those coffee breaks :D :D
I tend to do most effects myself without using commercial filters ... and I don't think that as yet that many of the commercial filters have been tested with PSE8.

I am wondering how the styles and actions are installed in PSE8. In PSE6 it is a bit complicated to install them, involving many steps. Did Adobe make it any easier??? Judy

Judy ...
Sadly they haven't made it any easier ... it pretty much the same as PSE6

Well, it's a tad easier if you want to use the actions player, but that's very limiting because it's in Guided Edit so you have no access to the layers palette or any of the full edit tools. But you don't need to care about thumbnails and XML files for the player.

That's a darn shame but I am not surprised. Judy

Just updated mine from 6 to 8. Copied my PTLens and Noise Ninja plugins across from PSE6 and they appear to work OK, but there's something different in the folder structure that means I can't use Grant's Tools as my layer mask action anymore. Has anyone else tried any other method yet? [Other than clipping to an adjustment layer]

Hi ...
What the problem what you try to install Grant's Tools ... and were you using the PSE6 set (and the PSE6 instructions) ??

Hi Wendy, yes I'd been using the 6 set in PSE6 and thought it worth a go to see if they'd work under 8.
The first part works Ok, putting the actions themselves in the specified folder, but the second part on the instructions involves placing some XML files in a folder called Photo Creations IIRC and this doesn't exist on Elements 8 which has left me at an impasse for now.

Hi ...
I don't have PSE8 installed on this Mac so I can't check it ... but just try a spotlight search for the Photo Creations file :)

Hi Wendy, I've just tried that. The Photo Creations folder is in a different place to PSE6 and contains the .ATN, .PNG and .XML files in contrast to PSE6 where the .XML files were in a different location to the other files. Anyway, I tried dragging them all in there, renaming the MediaDatabase file and relaunched PSE8.
At first I thought I had success as the Mask thumbnail appeared as expected [actually not quite, as it was there twice]. Lauching either icon didn't work though, coming up with an error along the lines of "Elements doesn't recognise the file type" or "the Make command is currently unavailable".
It looks like I can't readily bodge this and need someone who knows what they're doing to have a play!

For PSE 8 mac, they go in hard drive>library>application support>adobe>Photoshop Elements>8.0>Photo Creations>Special Effects, NOT in a subfolder within there.
However, I believe some things will have to be recompiled from CS4 to work properly--I haven't tried grant's tools, but of my own actions I've noticed that some steps fail to show dialog boxes and so on, presumably because the version of CS that created them is too old now.
Also, don't rename the mediaDatabase.db3, trash it. Renaming files is an old windows practice and it's preferable to move them to the trash.

Thanks the input Barbara, I'd renamed them in PSE6 and it worked ok, but I'll consider trashing them instead.
Regarding the path, do I put the ATN, PNG and XML files there or simply the ATN file?

All three.

Sorry Barbara, no go with Grant's layer mask action at any rate, I get the same messages as above. I'll revert to clipping an adjustment layer for now until people get to grips with it more.

No, I just tried. i've installed a fair number of actions with no problem but those are just too darned old now, I'm afraid.

Thanks again Barbara, I tried the Hidden Elements action too, but no joy.
On a very big plus point, if you open up Raw files from Bridge CS4 using CMD+R, you get the full version of Camera Raw to play with, complete with HSL/grayscale, curves, localised adjustment brush etc!!! In Elements 6 CMD+R never worked to open Raw files from Bridge in CS3, but it most certainly does now.
Double clicking a Raw thumbnail from Bridge still opens Elements limited version of Camera Raw, but if you edit using CMD+R and perform your edits there then reopen them the advanced edits stick.

Well, hidden elements is almost as old, so it's not surprising.
Yes, you can also right click a thumb and choose Open in Camera Raw. I also like very much that you can use the Develop Settings command in Bridge, too. Personally I've never understood the theory of batch processing raw, but if you want to, you can apply settings to bunches of files without even opening them.
