Bill, is there a limit to the number of photos one can submit? Michael (husband) and I both "marked" what I had done and we came up with different "winners". I have one that is a completely different photo but there are three of the same photo I have been treated differently - does this make a difference? If you prefer that I only submit one version of each photo, I will try and comply :D

Hi Karen -

We had been trying to keep it to one 'entry' per challenge. How about posting your favorite in the assignment thread and link your 'also rans' over here in the comments thread. Best of both worlds!

Looking forward to seeing your shots.

Good morning,

I'm wondering about submission rules for our images, similar to Grant's Challenges...for example is there a certain size we should use? Or is this more flexible.

Is the focus on good photography or creativity or both? Can we ask for advice afterwards on photography technique etc. - I already see the shortcomings in my first attempts but I'm not sure about how to improve it necessarily.

Thanks!

Hi Pat ...

Seeing that you are posting the image to image shack ot Pixentral then size shouldn't really matter but I too am wondering if we should be submitting photos or created things :)

My understanding was that you can use PE on the photos you take for each assignment but we'll both wait for some clarification.

I want to concentrate on the photo end of it so I don't plan to use PE to "create" anything, just for a border or the like. Grant's Challenge provides for learning PE technique. Although, I did use PE for levels and to take out some red-eye on the image I've already done...

I still have to figure out how to post a thumbnail right in the thread - still not sure what the heck I'm doing wrong when it seems so simple

Hi Pat ..

You can always use Image Shack to post a thumbnail in the thread :)

Hi all -

Easy questions first ... the only resolution issues would be those imposed by your webhost, so if you're posting to imageshack, pixentral, pbase or whatever, their guidelines would be the only issue. Critiques and comments of the photos can be posted in this thread.

The idea behind the assgnments was to get us more acquainted with our cameras ... which also seems to be a recurring idea in the new years resolutions that were posted. There was also a lot of discussion after the last round of assignments that, because this is a image editing forum there should be more room for creativity ... and I'm all for that.

Where we differ from Grant's challenge is that rather than starting with a common image, we are starting with our own photo(s), taken on a common theme. As far as the artistic aspect you can feel free to use PSE as much or as little as you like, just so you start out with one of your own images.

Hope that helps a bit.

What Michael use the camera  and the computer (shock, horror). He will take the occasional photo (when I let him  ); as for using the computer - he is completely computer illiterate and proud of it. Sorry there is no way!!

He only sat for ya, so you would feed him:D :D

They keep it open in the winter???

Actually Gary, I think he was glad to see me using the new flash he insisted on buying and I thought was frivolous so he thought he should be encouraging me. Besides, he owed me for a bunch of typing I did for him. :D

It's open for limited hours in the winter, and he doesn't work cause he's too busy being a theatre professor at the U.

(and for those who are clueless about "it" see www.archway.org Look around you'll find him various places.)

Kerriann,

My 7 year old grandson would love that hat! He thinks he's the big northern hunter and has quite a collection of fur hats himself - but nothing with an animal on top! Great image - wait until I show him. :)

You'd better put a lid on this challenge. It might be too popular...

Karen & Will-

I love your hats! Reminds me of all those days when I was a kid, dreaming about being a cowboy. Wait a minute...that was last week...

Turned out very effective Tony - can hardly wait to see what you do when conditions are normal !!

*Your image is not showing up today?

Kathy, love the composition of your theme and the softness you achieved. Very professional looking!

Bill, like the hanging arrangement of your hats - very nice.

All the "wee" folk and their hats are just precious!

There does seem to be a problem with image shack today. The thumbnails seem to have gone missing. Some great hat pics though from everyone..

If you did wonder why I didn't use flash - I did try but the shadows were so bad that not even that tutorial would fix them :) .

Mary -

I the font I used is "upper east side" and is a freebie available at http://eknp.com/fonts/u1.php . The font has a tendancy to freeze up on me (certain letter comibinations), so sometimes I have to enter text in little pieces. Being a freebie I can't complain ... I do like the look.

Everyone really did well with their entries, and I know more are coming in. Congrats to all ... hope it was fun.
